John Sedgwick
John Sedgwick (born Cornwall, CT, 13 September 1813 – 9 May 1864) was a career military officer who served in the Seminole Wars, the Mexican-American War and fought at many of the major battles of the Civil War, including Antietam, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg before being killed in action at Spotsylvania.
General Sedgwick was the highest ranking Union casualty in the Civil War, and is buried in his hometown of Cornwall.
