3 Ways to Describe Holding the Man (and why you should watch it)
A Tragic Story Amidst the Unforgiving Time and Place
“order for tim!” john calls out as he places the cup on the counter. he stands for a moment to make sure the order’s claimed, watching as an unfairly handsome blond man steps forward to grab it.
“ah, yes, thank you,” he says with an all-too charming british accent, momentarily glancing up at john with hypnotic blue eyes and giving him a small nod in gratitude.
“you’re welcome,” john says in response, shy smile appearing on his face as he feels his cheeks heat with a blush. the man - tim - politely smiles back, and then he’s gone, the door’s chimes ringing as he exits the coffee shop.
“who was that?” john asks as he steps back toward the cash register, where his friend and co-worker cara currently stands.
“tim, he's a new regular.” cara explains. “stephen’s served him before. i've only noticed him here one other time.”
“and no one thought to warn me?” john asks. cara smirks.
“why would we?” she asks. “does someone have a little crush?” john shakes his head.
“stop that.” he says. “he’s just… unfairly handsome. like 'he could be a disney prince'-type handsome.”
“so, ask him out.”
“are you kidding? he could be straight, for all i know.”
“but you don't. and trust me, i can read people - he checked you out too.”
john shakes his head as cara turns to help a customer. there's no way that a man that handsome and seemingly charming could be into him too… right?
john has no idea what he’s doing when it happens. if anyone asks, he’ll swear that somehow his drink was spiked, even if said drink wasn’t actually alcoholic.
nonetheless, he is kissing an android. and not just any android, but his android - he is kissing the supercomputer that he stole from ultra however many years ago. when he puts it that way, that he’s kissing a computer, it feels weird. but then he feels that soft, blond hair beneath his fingertips, and the soft lips against his own and he can somehow convince himself that this is normal, to some degree.
it doesn’t help that his android is responding, acting as any other person would when being kissed, hands splayed across john’s back, lips slotting with his, fitting almost perfectly.
john pulls back a moment later, catching his breath, knowing that his pupils must be dilated even the slightest bit right now - and for whatever reason, he swears he sees the same in his android’s eyes, but it’s gone as quickly as it appeared.
“why’d you do that?” john asks, breaking the silence between the two.
“shouldn’t i be asking you that question?” tim says with a smirk. john stares back at him, expressionless, and tim’s face falls, his gaze breaking away from john’s. “computers are supposed to be there for their owners’ needs. i was just doing my job.”
“well, your job should include stopping me from doing something stupid,” john says. tim is silent for a moment.
“did you like it, though?” he asks suddenly. “what you did?” john’s physical reaction - avoiding tim’s gaze, biting his lip, his cheeks turning a light shade of red - is answer enough.
“well,” tim says, pushing himself to his feet. “then my job here is done.” and with that, he moves to leave.
“wait,” john says, and tim stops. “stay? i promise not to step out of line again like that.” tim turns back around, a small smile on his face.
“you never did ask how i felt about the whole situation.” he says simply, and this time, the look john gives him is priceless.
