For the newly promoted Sheriff John Stilinski, the Hale fire was the worse thing to ever happen in his town. It was bad enough that so many people died. That it was deliberately set made it that much worse. He has lived his whole life with latent Sentinel abilities, this might be the case that pushes him over the edge.
