Review : Wakaya Perfection Organic Ginger & Organic Fijian Tumeric Tea
Anyone who’s been around me in the last few months knows I’m on a bit of a health kick at the moment. It started with Matcha Tea, I joined the gym (for the first time in YEARS) and we’ve invested in a Nutri Bullet blender to swap toast for healthier breakfast options, so I was over the moon when I got the opportunity to try out two of the new 100% organic powdered teas on offer at John Bell & Croydon...
I was excited to get sent a couple of Wakaya Perfection teas in the post as I’ve been obsessed with smoothies and everything to do with natural ingredients for the last few months. I’ve been a bit slow on the uptake but adding “boosts” to my morning smoothies has turned into a real interest in how we eat and drink generally in our current society and how we could all do with a bit more attention to detail in that area!
John Bell & Croydon now stock the Wakaya Perfection range and these two powder teas which I got to try out:
Both these powder teas can be added to hot water with a slice of lemon or a bit of honey to make refreshing tea or you can pop them in a smoothie.
Organic Fijian Tumeric
What I love about this powdered tumeric is not having to get tumeric juice on my hands - which is known for discolouring skin / gel nails as it’s so strong. I like to add a little honey to a mug and some hot water and drink it like this. It has a sort of gentle spicey taste - more warming than spicey.
The benefits of using Tumeric are well documented and include :
- the potential to prevent heart disease, Alzheimer's and cancer
- anti-inflammatory and antioxidant power
- can help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis
To get the anti inflammatory benefits of tumeric you need to have several cups of tea to make it count so I like to add this powder to my smoothies in the morning as well as drinking the tea with honey :
Organic Ginger Tea
Ginger is also a fab root plant which is great for upset stomachs , flavouring food when cooking and it has a myriad of anti inflammatory properties too! I usually cut up fresh ginger with hot water and honey and lemon nut have never tried powdered ginger in tea before !
In the pot you’ll find a rather cute little wooden spoon to help you scoop out the ginger powder:
Ginger is much stronger tasting than the tumeric - it’s quite warming as well so it’s nice to try it without carbonated fizz and in a more concentrated form than if you cut up chunks of ginger and put them in hot water.
All in all both these powdered teas were delicious and I can’t wait to start cooking with them too! You can use them in curries and winter soups as well as drinking them as an alternative from your usual PG tips! They’re totally vegan friendly and organic too which is great !
