Now that I got my hands on its physical forms, I love In Spades even more. A great addition to the Whigs-Dulli canon. Rooted in the signature Whigs sound but with hooks to reel you in, it is a short 36 minute affair with strong R&B and NOLA flavor. New songs that are opening up for me are Light as a Feather and I Got Lost, the latter song sounds like a coda from an Afghan Whigs album that lingers in your memory. #theafghanwhigs #InSpades #gregdulli #johncurley #daverosser #jonskibic #TwilightSingers #thetwilightsingers (at Cleveland Clinic)
Well it took many hours to get the soundcloud's subpop stream to my 🍎music account in advance of the official May 5th release but I have been listening to the @theafghanwhigs #InSpades nonstop. No isolated mindfucks like the #TwilightSingers' Number Nine but the record is coherent and works as a great whole work of super-bad-ass rhythm & roll. The standouts for me are the rave up Arabian Heights and the slow burn of Oriole. I have the LP on the way for me and 4 copies of the CD to give to the initiates of my religious order. #afghanwhigs #gregdulli #johncurley @davidrosser @jonskibic #ricknelson #yeahiknowthatispeteroseandnotgregdulli (at Music Heaven!)

Suffice it to say this show was probably one of the greatest music fan moments I’ve ever had. When it was announced they’d be getting back together I was absolutely out of my mind. I remember standing in front of John, watching him put his bass on and I let out a blood curdling scream I’d held in for 13 years…(<—dramatic, yes…). I startled myself. Honestly.
And so it began a fantastic year of AW shows (15 I think I ended up seeing….). I emptied my bank account and willingly handed it over to them. I’d do it all over again, too.
And thanks to whoever that roadie was for handing me Greg’s pick….I think I wanna be buried with it. (The pick. Not the roadie…;)).
