{{ I love JohnLock more than any other pairing in Sherlock but please stop completely disregarding Mary (whom I love to death and am happy to see her with John as I actually ship them too), this is just one of the reasons why people don't like us in this fandom.

I'm not saying stop with the edits that you guys do because I love them but don't add stupid comments like 'if you cut Mary out it looks like John and Sherlock's wedding' or 'John is just getting revenge on Sherlock by marrying Mary' onto your lovely edits because it makes the rest of the shippers look awful in the eyes of people who are already against the pairing.

Mary is canon, always has been if you'd read the books. At least wait until you've seen the new series before you make a judgment on BBC!Mary, please I'm sick of seeing this in the JohnLock tag and then seeing un-tagged JohnLock hate across my dash. }}

Stop the Hate on two levels: For Amanda Abbington and For Johnlock Supporters

I wrote this a week ago or so before the Moran incident. Now I think it is so timely.

I have never become a part of a fandom before. I don’t fit into the typical categories of Tumblr Fandoms (young, passionate etc.) but I am amazed by two things recently: the death threats to lovely, talented Amanda Abbington and also the turn of the tide towards the Johnlock fandom. The second seems like to be the consequence of the first but I disagree. First of all any personal hard feelings, let alone threats, to another actor is silly and wrong on many levels. No need to even state that. I guess most of the fans agree on that. Martin Freeman’s sensitivity can easily be understood.

However, the second thing; the baiting of Johnlock fans is more elusive and it is quite disappointing. First of all Sherlock adaptations as the TV show itself is a fanfiction. Do we all agree on that? Mofatt and Gatiss are two ACD fanboys, genius and talented, who wrote their own fiction which is loved by millions. They almost stand on the same ground with other fictions, if we let the incredibly talented actors and great production go.

And then the issue of canon: Johnlock has long been a subject of literary analysis long before the TV show came out.  Surf the internet and you will find tons of academic works on the subtle, sexual subtext of the ACD works. Therefore it is not imagined. There is even a movie done in the past which portrayed the characters in a relationship with each other. In addition, Sherlock as a show planted subtle subtext messages all around the show and the actors enjoyed each other’s wit and chemistry. It is much more rare to find this amazing understanding and love between characters. Nobody asks you to show a sexual relationship but why denying the marriage of minds, two halves of a whole? Do you really think people long for lust and sex on screen or might they long for meaningful relationships, love that makes you trust someone so much that you kill a person on the day you meet them to protect them? A love that makes you jump off the rooftop to hide 2 years, forgetting the city that you know every atom of. Isn't  this love and unification at first sight? Maybe the audience is overwhelmed by this not the possibility of smooching. Then why do the show's non-Johnlock fans producers, writers or actors feel threatened by it?

What is all the hype now? Why are the fans constantly alienated as crazy people who imagine things by the producers and even by the actors sometimes? Who owns the Canon? Who owns the ACD’s imagined world? If there is a certain way of reading into the books, then all those scholars writing on their unique love is somewhat crazy. And I am sorry to say that the books never develop any love interest of Watson with the same intensity that it describes Holmes-Watson relationship. If you want Canon, this is the canon.

I find this utterly disturbing that in an age where a show like SPARTACUS, which had a huge (mostly male and mostly straight) following, did not shy away from having gay lead characters in a romantic, meaningful relationship but a progressive adaptation like Sherlock tries to “set the record straight” all the time because of a specific fanbase who have all the reasons, from the show and outside of the show, to like Johnlock.

Relax writers, producers and actors; millions of fans appreciate your creation and have waited for years, take it easy! You need to support this fandom, they are worth it. They have gone back to the works of ACD time and time like you imagined it long time ago. These fans know what they are adoring.
