Expressing 'understan­ding of economic hardships' is lovely, but it's a token, empty gesture when followed by contradict­ory actions. We've heard this empty rhetoric for 30 years from politician­s. They do think people are stupid, swayed easily by half-truth­s and good advertisin­g, and it's nice to see some people calling them on it.
