Sacrifice by JohnMoProductions
JohnMoProductions is an artist based in Ohio who grew up mostly in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from a Liberal Arts school called Ohio Wesleyan University four years ago with a bachelor’s degree and majored in Sociology / Philosophy. “Thought I would go to Law school. Decided against that, very glad I did.” He did go on to get a welding certificate at a community college and he is currently in the process of accomplishing a diamontologist certificate. “I like to keep things interesting.”
“I just kind of stumbled into collage because I didn't have access to a metals studio – which I got into at college – but still wanted to make art objects.” He initially messed around with the scale of different images for laughs like a giant seal and little city. But eventually, he realised he could use it to illustrate more complicated ideas and feelings. His ideas mostly come from contemporary European philosophy and feelings from childhood or happy times. “Sometimes, it’s still just ‘oh that’d look cool’ though.” His biggest influences would be 1) numerous theorists / critics of technology and culture such as Paul Virilio and Peter Sloterdijk, 2) current electronic music and 3) the Internet culture. His main implements include scissors, paper, rubber cement and scanner.
He really enjoys his collaborations with all underground musicians from around the web. His affiliation with Midwest Collective has been a great way for him to meet these people. “I really appreciate their continued support. MWC shout out!” He’s recently been part of a cover collab for Ｎｏö ｃｅｎｅ O'Ｎｅａｌ's new album ‘SAILBOAT ⓄⒼ’ with รรรђhєєє/ssshheee, and WALKIE TALKIE, he worked with Walkie Talkie on the upcoming Midwest Collective Vol.4 compilation cover, and recently finished the cover with Home for the new Home//Music album ‘Odyssey’ coming out later this month. He’ll be releasing and selling a print of the Home cover on the day it drops on one of his pages.
