Loved your post, it was really informative and I literally gasped when I read about naming Adrian's planet after suchin, because it definitely, **definitely** makes sense that johnny would do that, even after knowing what taka really did to him in the end...

and him and kenshi learning how to interact and speak with one another following the translation issues in the first place, it just feels so intimate that johnny would pick kenshi's name and name a planet after kenshi's mate (if suchin is still his mate in this au).

I see a lot of stuff on twitter about rocky and adrian basically making grace into their third, or being adoringly in love with him because he's their little human! he saved erid and brought rocky home! he's theirs!

-- and it just makes me wonder, would kenshi do the same with johnny? and, of course, the mary does end up being repaired but all i can think is that they'd just use her technology to send messages back to earth, for johnny to send word to taka and john that he's happy where he is even if he misses home :((

YESSSS yeah johnny absolutely becomes kenshi and suchins third #real. he does have his mate i fear adrian is too embedded in my psyche to ignore <3 also i need someone to top that rock anyways this got long again

i also constantly think about them learning to interact and speak with one another- as a linguist it pains me to say that johnny would be so so ass at figuring out eridian. in the book (and the movie) grace's 1000 words in a few days is litearlly just bull im so serious theres no way for that to happen. it would take MUCH longer for him to reasonably make a dictionary of eridian words, even with the added benefit of the fact eridians have an eidetic memory and he's using a hand coded software meant for this. kenshi would totally be doing a lot of the heavy lifting here, mostly because of the eidetic memory. (i could also go on a tangent abt eridian but thats gonna have to be a different post)

now to the meat..

i do think the eridians fix up the hail mary, but johnny absolutely stays on erid. like i said, he kinda left most of earth with a pretty sour impression of him, even after he was humbled by those 14 year olds- he still held people at arms length and kinda had this idea that he wasn't really that important (despite being the 2nd highest ranking person in the world at one point??) because he never really got over the rejection. i mean, he was rejected at most of the important parts of his life- his father, his mother, and then he goes and makes a name for himself in academia only for his own actions to condemn him from ever being accepted in his chosen field- yeah, basically, he never felt accepted by earth. and he found out how disposable he really is because despite being that guy who knew everything, the leading scientist, the second most powerful person in the world, he was as expendable as the next guy. i mean, the things you do in an oncoming apocalypse, right?

either way, he stays. he stays on erid with the first true friend he was able to make- not just someone forced into proximity that he became unintentionally close with. thats not to say he was never close to taka or john, though! of course, he was close to them, but it's obviously nothing like what he has with kenshi- that kind of bond could never be recreated. but still, he always figured that taka and john were just around him because he could make himself useful. which was kinda true but hey they did also like him back!

and that's why he would absolutely send some messages back to them. even if it was, you know, years down the line and likely wouldnt make it back to earth for a very, very, very long time, he'd give it an attempt. he'd throw his own hail mary in hopes that earth's all right too. he'd already sent the beetles, so he got those messages back to taka and john, and he'd left some little tidbits in there for them, but after that? i think they'd absolutely fix up the hail mary just to send one last message. it'll take far too long to get there, and he'll never get one back, but it's a nice kind of closure, you know?

johnny does miss earth, but he would miss kenshi even more if he even tried to go back to earth. his home's among the stars now!

taka having distanced himself from his family/sisters for so long that when they finally find him, he doesnt recognize them.. taka unable to tell if the voice he's hearing is familiar, only realizing after he's barreled into and called the very same thing he got called growing up-- i think it breaks something in him, knowing he had forgotten his family; especially after meeting kenshi's family and realizing the importance that they hold in his life... his older sisters only a little mad at him, still squeezing the breath out of him and kissing his forehead and giggling at having found their brother after so long apart... sigh

giving takahashi kenshi chronic reoccurring hanahaki disease when he refuses to acknowledge his love for (in no particular order) takeda, suchin, john, jax, johnny, kenshi, and really any of his friends or family, and watching him suffer until he's throwing up roots in some cases because dealing with his emotions is so hard for him... everyone in his life going "you would rather let me watch you die than tell me you love me?" and having to deal with the fact that when they first ask, taka will almost always very stubbornly and bitterly say yes 😭
