Tangela for the Johtodex!

I never realized how minty Tangela's vines were in the Gen 2 sprites until I went to research. So in this painting, an ode to Tangela's old minty vines!

There's something so classic Pokemon about Tangela's design that I just love. A ball of vines, a pair of eyes and a pair of shoes. Just a little guy who is also a pocket monster <3

Lickitung for the Johtodex!

As a kid sometimes I would cycle through having different Pokemon be my favorite for a period of time. I remember Lickitung being one of many that I focused on at one point. I still really like its design, honestly another big, pink normal type cutie but maybe one of the more under-appreciated ones.

I love Pokemon designs that are less based on any specific animal in real life and live up to the "monster" of Pocket Monsters and are just a lovable battle critter <3

Farfetch'd for the Johtodex!

I've always loved Farfetch'd. She's a valued member of my all-birds Crystal team based on my own characters from Ornithia (She's Kia).

I also love using her in the Stadium games for those more niche cups. Went through a lot of effort breeding one with Swords Dance, Quick Attack and Slash to trade back to Gen 1 for Stadium shenanigans.

Smeargle for the Johtodex!

Smeargle always has a soft spot in my heart <3 How can I not relate to a cute little dog who paints with a brush tail!

Unown for the Johtodex!

I wanted the Unown to spell out something, and ultimately I decided on "Harmony" from this passage found in the Ruins of Alph in Crystal.

"Our words shall remain here for the ages Thus we shall erect a Pokémon statue outside We humans must learn to walk in harmony with them. We depart for their sakes They possess great insight and refuse the outside world"

While Unown aren't great battlers, I do really love the small bit of world building and lore it brings to Johto. They're just cool little guys!
