Jola Sopek - Morningrise
(from Square Space Magazine Issue#11) Photographs mean everything and nothing - within them lives the idea of an eternal morning. I collect slices of reality not because they aid my memory but because they become an extension of the experiences. In my dreams I escape the body and become the light, the shades, the textures of the things I photograph. The very inaccessibility of the vision constitutes its beauty; it’s electrifying.
Jola works on long-term projects in the form of photo-essays. In her practice she explores the notion that photography works like a jigsaw puzzle which can only by solved by shooting extensively. The practice lends itself to creating a highly personalised reality where the only rules are visual and sensory.
