(Note: I have not played through the whole game yet. This is my first play-through. I do plan on trying the New Game + after.) Girly girls can be incredibly intelligent scientists, too, Jenny! Come on! Please! She wants to be your friend, she’s kindhearted and she has all these amazing inventions. You’re going to tell me that just because you’re hung up on being a tomboy kid detective who hates girly stuff that you’re going to more or less leave her in the dust unless there’s no other option? Not everyone’s a stereotype, and She’s having a terrible time bowing to pressure to conform to sexist gender roles because she’s worried about not being liked and fearing she’ll be freaking disowned by her family!

I get it, you’re a kid, a young teenager to be more specific, and you’ve still got a lot to learn. You’re also grieving the Dean’s death and worried about your mom and your former best friend. Still, you two would make a brilliant team! “I work alone” may seem cool to you now, but a great detective should also at least know the value of connections. Who do you have on your side when the chips are down or when you just want a friend your own age and sex/gender you can relate to? Just CJ’s not enough! In short/tldr; I want to make friends with Suzie Q. as Jenny but the dialogue options won’t really let me (yet?) and I feel like Jenny’s internalized that terrible “all things associated with being girly are inherently inferior and weak” way of thinking that, thankfully, seems like it’s on it’s way out of here nowadays with the advent of more animated heroes in western animation who aren’t afraid to be sensitive, soft, and wear colors such as pink.
