Don Rickles… Took the big cab today, 90 years old. While living in Los Angeles I'd try to make a buck here & there with production work. I was a PA on an industrial spot, for a home security system & they hired Rickles to be the spokesman. At lunch he was poking around craft service, I knew I had to take the opportunity to say Hello. I'm six four, he's four six. I nervously tell him I watched all the Roasts, the Carson interviews, etc. He says, "What's your name, kid?" I told him. He says, "What'd you want me to do, shoot a rocket outta my pants?" Then he asks, "What'd you do, besides embarrass yourself talking to big names?" I told him, "I've directed some stuff, written books, screenplays, da-da-da..." Don rolls his eyes, shakes my hand before turning away, "Yeah-Yeah, don't sell your baseball cards." He was an original, without genre, truly hilarious. One of the greats. He'll remain that way. Jon Dambacher
