Have you seen The Fare (2018)?
Yes
No
Haven’t even heard of this movie
Yes, something was ending during the late 90's. The Britpop and its passers-by found several ways of expressing it, either personal or cultural, although they all lead to the same feeling, i.e. they all fought the battle that was already lost. Of course, they also shared the same melancholic/bitter vibe, but some of them used other defense mechanisms. The Divine Comedy, aptly, became the court jesters of that period with their final album of the 90's, suitably titled Fin De Siècle. Their orchestral pop got even closer to the possible Vivian Stanshall review with the 60's Scott Walker and Noel Coward. However, it's not all ha-ha-ha-oh-that's-funny with the band, Neil Hannon actually tries to make the best of this situation. The tune in the link says it all, it advises us to go our own path, since we are here.
