[An image of Thunderhead’s lineup with “THUNDERHEAD” written vertically on the left of it in a font mimicking thunderbolts with an arrow pointing towards the image; two thunderbolts on either side of the band's name. “KAREN TUCO” is also written on the right; “TUCO” might also read “TUEO” or “TURO”]
THUNDERHEAD has come quite a long way since they opened the Anvil Chorus show last year in McLaren Park. Both were very different bands back then and both have greatly changed for the better since then. Putting the days of doing Priest, Maiden and Sabbath covers behind them, they’ve developed a killer set of original tunes. Things really solidified for them during the summer with addition of drummer Mark Bradley. They’ve had so many drummers now I would’nt be surprised if they’ve lost count on how many they’ve gone through. Looking beyond some technical problems (failing guitar cables) at thier Metal Monday gig, they delivered a good loud show that night. Thier set includes “Make it or Break it”, “Sorcerers”, “Road Death” and “Thunderhead”, killers of the Maiden/Accept brand. Song pen man and guitarist Jon Torres is the core of the band though the rest of the personnel is also very talented. There is brother Mike Torres wielding his trusty Rickenbacher 4001 bass guitar, Carl Stevens playing cool in the vocal department and Terry Hamilton is the 2nd guitar. Both of the guitarist in Thunderhead play lead but it’s definitely Jon’s show as the band’s main axeman.
A rough tape of them has been played on the Rampage Radio program but in the near future when a quality studio demo tape is available, you can bet more Thunderhead will be heard on KUSF. Keep apounding and araging kids!!!
Steele-Shlop. Maybe if they had a lead guitarist who is somewhat good I could bear listening to thier awful songs. Maybe if they did’nt synchronize thier poses like they were heavy metal DEVO clones, I could bear watching thier show but I
