Meeting for the first time in Blackwater Jail in 1891, Jonah Williams [alias Miles Cassady] and Karmen Davis [Cassady] share a brief conversation. When Karmen’s sister Jane blows down a wall to free her she accidentally busts open Jonah’s cell as well. Leaving him to slip away from his supposed sealed fate in the commotion.
Meeting again in 1897 by chance, they argue over the fate of a criminal they both intend to turn in to different authorities for the large monetary reward. After being ambushed by the criminal’s posse they work together to fend them off. Realizing perhaps working together could be beneficial to both of them, Jonah joins Karmen and Jane in the pursuit of a better life in a changing world that has little room left for outlaws.
Sometime after 1899 Jonah and Karmen begin a romantic relationship that progresses to a Common-Law Marriage.
