The music is a dissolution of the nationalist song "Mutya" by Aloysius Baes, [...] here quoted but in residues throughout the composition. The word "tagulaylay" is associated with various meanings, among them a plaintive melody suggesting lament, used in the Philippine "pasyon" traditions, especially in the Tagalog region in Luzon Island.
As context, Aloysius Baes’ Mutya is a protest song based on Sr. Bonifacio Abdon’s Kundiman. :)
