Jonas stumbling out of bed is nothing new. It has happened more as age has worn his joints.
What is new is the sudden exhaustion. His vision going hazy around the edges. The inability of his legs to hold him up.
Jonas tries to call out to his husband. His whisper is not loud enough to wake Rachid, but the thud of his body hitting the floor is.
The last thing Jonas’ eyes grab onto is Rachid’s socks, his pajamaed knees hitting the floor next to him. Comforting.
Jonas lays a hand on Rachid’s knee.
The world goes dark.
