“There a particular reason you insisted I meet you at this shady parking garage?” Gen asked as she stepped into the abandoned space and pulled off her sunglasses.
“As I recall, Little Witch, you promised your loyalty,” Klaus quipped. “And I have need of someone loyal at my side in this trying time. Elijah’s-”
“Yes yes, Elijah’s turned against you, Rebekah’s plotting behind your back, all of New Orleans is planning your downfall,” Gen finished and sighed. “I mean what do you want me to be doing? Locator spell? Cloaking spell?”
“I trust you’ve learned useful things beyond your-- what did you call them…baby witch spells-- in your time studying the collection of grimoires I’ve graciously granted you access to,” Klaus replied.
“You’d be correct,” she confirmed. “But what do you want me to do with them?”
“I’ll be requiring your assistance in reclaiming something that’s rightfully mine.”
“And what’s that?”
“My kingdom.”
A dark blue car with heavily tinted windows pulled into the warehouse and Klaus seemed eager as the door opened and Josh stepped out.
“Ah Joshua. Nice of you to return. I believe you’re acquainted with Genevra here so we can skip the formalities and get to the important information,” Klaus said.
Gen sighed and offered a small smile to Josh.
“Wait, you're bringing her?” he asked, his eyes warily going to Gen before turning back to Klaus.
“Contrary to popular belief, I am actually a competent witch,” she quipped, moving to stand beside Klaus, noting the pinning stare he was giving Josh. “Now that information that Klaus is chomping at the bit for?”
“Right um look not to doubt either of your mad skills, but Marcel’s on high alert,” Josh said, swallowing at the stare Klaus was giving him. “He’s got like an army surrounding him. Might not be the best place to bring your mortal witch.”
“I believe the young Joshua has grown fond of you, Little Witch,” Klaus said with a lilt of amusement in his tone before his expression turned serious. “Now Joshua. I’m sure you can do better than that.”
Josh seemed to hesitate before he spoke again. “Look I… uh heard him arguing with Diego. He’s clearing out the compound for something. A date I think. That’s where Marcel will be.”
Klaus placed a hand on the young vampire’s shoulder. To anyone who didn’t know, this would be a heartwarming sight, but Gen knew Klaus well enough by now. She didn’t have to listen close to know what the hybrid was saying. The offer of a reward for faithful service followed by the threat of painful death for betrayal seemed a common theme with him.
She moved to follow him out of the warehouse but Josh caught her hand making her turn. The look in his eyes said everything she needed to know. The coming evening was going to be a bloodbath. Whose blood that would be was yet to be seen.
“Gen,” he started to say. The rest of his words seemed to stick in his throat. Klaus was no doubt listening. “Be careful. Okay?”
Gen met his eyes and nodded, offering him a squeeze to the hand. “You too, Josh,” she said.
“Little Witch! We do have a schedule to keep!”
“I gotta go, but… ya know if you need a hand after all this settles, give me a call. You have my number,” she said and hurried out the door.
