Jonathan eyed the young woman before him, one eyebrow raised curiously. He was silent as he stared her down for a moment, but eventually his expression melted into a relaxed look.
“Forgive me, my dear,” he said with a smile. “But I could’ve sworn we’ve met before. Would you please jog an old man’s memory and tell me your name?”
The woods surrounding Lake Lilac were unkind to an old man trying to lay low while he figured out what to do next. There had been many opportunities to grab Daniel (he’d been so tempted during those few days where him and his ‘beloved twin’ had been children), but with the number of monsters and magical folks within the camp, Jonathan would’ve had a difficult time escaping with him undetected.
However, he had a feeling that NO ONE would be looking for a bloody-faced and beaten teenager who was bolting from the camp as fast as his legs could carry him. Especially not since that one girl (the one who had claimed to be Daniel’s daughter) had been the one to chase him away in the first place, making it very clear he was not welcomed back.
He might not have been Daniel, but Jonathan could work with that.
He stepped out of the clearing in front of the escaping lad, a concerned expression on his face.
“My dear boy, you look awful! Do you need some help?”

“Oh! You’re back again,” Jonathan said cheerfully, at the sight of the young child. “How have you been enjoying Xemüg’s Guide To Eternal Salvation, my dear-”
He paused for a moment. “You know, I don’t believe I ever asked you for your name. How rude of me!”
What a lovely morning!
