Even though it’s disappointing, I understand why Seth identities with his white side. Me and my brother are mixed (half black, half white) and black people can be very harsh and unaccepting of lighter skinned people. Some of them almost shun us to the point where my brother identifies with the white side of us more. We’re also from Canada so the colourism is not as bad as it is in the south so I can’t say what the treatment is. When you’re mixed, you’ll always be told you’re not darker enough.
No I totally understand what you’re saying and I’ve actually recently started learning about Colorism. A good friend of mine is biracial and she’s told me it was really hard because she was never black enough or white enough to fit into a group. I guess my problem isn’t that he identifies with his white side, because I do understand that his mother raised him, but just that it seems so obvious he doesn’t feel compelled to speak up when he has a platform. He retweeted Tony DeAngelo’s tweet tonight, who is pretty well known for some racist shit he’s said. This is not to say that it isn’t sad what happened to that man, but like c’mon Seth. When you say nothing at all, and then retweet something a known racist says, what do you want people to think???
