The drag of his feet across the pavement makes one thing extremely obvious. Mike Ross is not meant for this life.

His knees protest every second, his back is in sore need of an adjustment, and he can’t help but wonder if he’s remembered to save his Fallout progress.

Vaulting himself across a rooftop, he lands on his hands and knees across the barrier.

“Well, that was kinda sick,” he tells himself before promptly puking his guts behind the dumpster. If only he had a time machine, Mike might never have opened that stupid email from Kyle.

His earpiece fell on his run, so he scrambles to grab the cellphone, groaning when he sees twelve missed calls from—

Harvey Specter Calling  

He presses the answer button and holds the phone up to his ea.

Title: Play Me

Summary: “Harvey,” the man says and Mike removes his hands from the keys.   “Mike,” he answers and Harvey nods once and repeats Mike’s name quietly, like he’s trying the sound of it out in his mouth. 

“I should be going,” Mike hooks his thumb over his shoulder, “Ben will want to be closing up.” The barman, as if on cue, slams the cash register closed.  Harvey blinks and Mike wants to run his hand through his hair. 

“You should play with us one day,” he says and Mike nods, shoves his hands into his pockets. 

“Sure,” it’s non committal and Mike can hear the hesitation in his voice as Harvey raises an eyebrow like he can read Mike’s mind.

“Nice to meet you.” 

“You too, Mike.”

Mike was 17 when he discovered he could play the piano.  

It was totally by accident as well.  Another school counsellor sending him to yet another grief counsellor (“You need to process your parents death, Michael”) and he’d found himself sitting in a too white house on the edge of town with the sound of sobbing coming from the room in front of him and a grand piano behind him.  He’d run his fingers over the keys, pressing one, then another.  Group music lessons from school a distant memory but a memory nevertheless so the knowledge of middle C had stayed with him and he’d sat, opened the sheet music and pressed his fingers to the keys tentatively.

It was a simple variation on Pachelbel's Cannon in D and Mike had felt the music flow through him.

That’s where the counsellor had found him, fingers pressed to the keys, the sound from the piano slowly fading and Mike had felt the need to learn and absorb everything he could.  

“Keep coming to see me and I’ll let you play as often as you want,” the counsellor had said and Mike had agreed.

Those all sound interesting. I'd be thrilled to see anything from you. While I'd like to see how your WIP's turn out some day, if they're not exciting you right now, I'd say go with the new stuff. I'd read any of the new stories, but if I had to rank my preferences, I'm going to say 3, 4, 2, 1, 5.

Yeah, for some reason I feel like I totally lost touch with most of my WIPs. I still have a good idea of how they’ll end I just can’t seem to...get there. i have tons of ideas for other stories but with the ones 99% done i don’t even remember where to start....so frustrating. 

honestly, #3 got super dark halfway through (not the someone dies way, but you know) so i toned it down a little but...still sad lmao

Summary: After getting released from prison Mike struggles to get his life back in order. When he gets into an accident just before Christmas, Harvey calls for an intervention.

Notes: This is probably the most long winded way to answer a prompt but I hope you recognize it and like it, too.

Mike doesn’t take the job.

Harvey should have known.

That Mike hadn’t given him an answer right away should have been a clue. That he still hadn’t given him an answer three weeks later should have made it obvious. That they hadn’t seen each other for another four weeks after that and only exchanged the occasional text message should have made it all clear.

It takes Louis barging into Harvey’s office, babbling about some situation - no, not a fire and no, not a zombie apocalypse either - to confirm it for Harvey.

The situation turns out to be a fight between Rachel and Mike. As per Louis’ reenactment, Rachel had even thrown something at Mike.

That’s when Harvey knows.

Mike won’t take the job.
