Butterfingers
When I was a kid, okay and even as an adult… I would yell out butterfingers in hope of jinxing the other team to miss the ball. I swear to you I didn’t yell that out this game. Although, you’d think the jinx was finally working because no one caught anything. Honestly, there is a cold going around right now and I’m pretty sure they can’t even catch that.
I’m not trying to be mean, but it’s the truth. After watching this game, the only thing that comes to mind is the movie Little Giants and the character Rashid “Hot Hands” Hanon, and when he uses the glue in order to catch the ball. This isn’t the first time I’ve contemplated gifting the Seahawks something like that.
Another thing I’ve wanted for a while is a shirt that says, “I went to a Seahawks game and all I got was this field goal.” I mean, I loved Steven Hauschka as much as the next person but I saw A LOT of him during his career in Seattle. I’m also convinced during the preseason they did a profile on Blair Walsh so I (and others) would warm up to him knowing fate was going to be in his hands… or kicks more often than not. And also, Mr. Jon Ryan… I love you, you punting machine, but I don’t want to see you this much during a game. I thought that last week and I’m thinking it again this week.
I am very happy Luke Willson was able to do a little something in this game. It is really hard to keep your energy level up as a fan. It’s exhausting. I mean, I’m sure it’s exhausting playing the game too but, when all you want is to celebrate your team, cheer for something great that has happened, and they just aren’t giving you anything… you need that little glimmer of hope that they can turn it around. You need that little something so you can stay energized and not start doubting everything. That’s what Luke Willson gave us when he HOPPED over whichever player on the 49ers he hopped over (all I saw was the hop, so sorry dude I’m not naming right now).
Well, well, well. I’m convinced people have been asleep on Bobby Wagner. I remember when he was injured a few years back and missed several games. Well, when he got injured I was like, “no! no! NOOO!” and everyone was like, “meh.” Then he came back and finally people started to see him for who he was. A BEAST. The athleticism of Bobby Wagner is probably one of the most impressive things I’ve seen. I still think he doesn’t get enough credit for what he does on the field.
Coaches, it’s time to figure out what to do with Jimmy Graham. He’s kind of like my Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer, really expensive and just kind of there. I have it, but what to do with it? Do I bake cookies, cake, macrons? Well coaches, it’s time to figure out how you’re going to utilize him. There is no denying he is an incredible player. A few mistakes here and there but don’t we all have those? it’s time to get him to point I feel comfortable when Russell Wilson throws him the ball. I mean, Russell Wilson needs to feel comfortable passing him the ball.
That brings me to my last topic of this blog. Russell Wilson. Watching him play this game was like watching the rookie Russell Wilson. Is he going to pass, is he going to hand off, is he going to run? It’s a mystery. Today was like watching rookie Wilson doing what he needed to do in order to keep the play alive. Yes, there were a few things that could have been different but if it wasn’t for Russell Wilson, Seattle’s offense would have folded. Once again, thank you Russell Wilson for saving us.
Boom for Thought:
It is time to start playing with more than just half a team. The fact that Seahawks had possession for 20 minutes in the first half and only had 6 points on the board… that is not a championship team. I know, I know it’s not how you start the game it’s how you finish. I know, I know defense wins games. Well my friends it is time for the team to come together on the field. From preseason to week one I don’t know what happened, but it’s time to get out of our heads and start playing as one, full, beast of a team.
This week’s MVP (in my mind): Jon Ryan
