i'm jewish and i like plath. "daddy" is controversial for a lot of reasons, but i find she wrote it the way she did because her father was a nazi sympathizer, so she compared what she felt to what she knew as a child before he died. it doesn't make it right necessarily, but poetry is more complex than that (esp plath's.. she's said the poem was about a girl with a nazi father and jewish mother), and plath has always been controversial in that way. (sorry, wish i could reply to the ask, but alas)

thank you so much for sending this in!!! as i’m not jewish, i don’t feel like i can talk about it much, but i agree that poetry is very complex and not ever right/wrong. she was empathising w the suffering and not intending to belittle it, so i personally can still read her poems. but i still understand people not liking it ofc xxx
