It was never a big secret that Asher was an accident.  His mom never used that word though.  She preferred things like “surprise” and “unplanned blessing”.  He never took it personally though.  It didn’t upset him, he knew his mother loved him greatly, and him being an accident didn’t mean he was a regret.  In fact, he was her greatest joy.

As a kid, Asher was what you might call a nerd.  He loved to write, and he took up the violin in the fourth grade.  He did pretty well in school.  He was good at English and history, and he was fair enough at math and science to keep his grades up.

Once he he hit high school, things started to go south.  Bigger kids started to see him as an easy target.  He knew he had two choices: adapt or get beat.  He picked the former.  He learned how to handle himself, how to throw his weight behind every punch, and hit someone without breaking a knuckle.  He got good at defending himself, and he liked the power of winning.  Power was something Asher had never really felt until he started fighting.

Once Asher left high school, he found himself searching for that power rush in a big way.  He moved out to The Badlands, where fights weren’t near as hard to come by.  He took up gambling, and after a while it became less of a hobby and more of a habit.  He liked the thrill of it.  It made him feel good, it was fun, and it kept him occupied.
