Bearing witness to Jory realizing that he sought to join the fabled Grey Wardens in pursuit of glory disguised as altruism (without ever stopping to consider the larger implications) is honestly kind of heartbreaking.
Reality hits him like a freight train the moment they step into the Korcari Wilds and stop to help the injured soldier.
Suddenly, he understands everything he stands to lose, and his (perhaps subconscious) motives are laid bare.
Glory. Hail the conquering hero.
Yet he has a wife he is clearly besotted with. After courting her for many years, they had been married for only one. (He lovingly waxes poetic about her beautiful eyes.) And there's a child yet to be born.
He realizes, far too late, that he has made a terrible mistake.
One he can no longer undo.
