Cafe Moskau by Josep Kaiser and Horst Bauer (1964) is a glorious example of Soviet post-war architecture on Karl-Marx Allee, Berlin, featuring a mosaic by Bert Heller, ‘From the life of the peoples of the Soviet Union’, custom typography by Klaus Wittkugel and a sculpture of Sputnik.
Cafe Moskau stands opposite an equally stupefying construction, Kino International. Although it is now owned by an events agency, in its post-Wall glory it operated as a techno club and gay/lesbian bar.
