Mary smirked a little at the other. “We’re calling whiskey medication now?” she asked, pulling the bottle away from him, tipping her head back and drinking until her throat burned. “You should have told me sooner. When my mom finds my room empty I can just say I was taking my medicine instead of I was drinking until I couldn’t see straight.”
“Hey, it gets the job done, so why not?” Joseph had snatched his bottle back almost before Mary had finished her drink. “Hey, whiskey like this ain’t cheap. Don’t go drinking all of mine.” He took another swig, and afterwards, became oddly quiet. “Your mother’s a bitch. I don’t understand why you haven’t taken up my offer yet.”
