No matter what you decide to do with your life, it's goin' to be something where not everyone makes it. Music ain't an easy career to choose, and neither is photography. The thing about any kind of art is, you got to do it because you need to, because you got things to say and no other way of sayin' 'em, because it's what you got to do.
You don't have to choose between music and photography, least not right away. You can go on doin' both for a while and see if one of 'em picks up easier than the other, or if you start likin' one more than the other. Or you can go after one of 'em now and give it as much effort as you can, and then if it ain't workin', or if you get tired of it later on, you can have a go at the other. Mick Jones and I both tried art before he started makin' music and I started writing. Paul stuck with us and played bass for ages, but he was a painter, really, and now he's doin' art and design again. Terry came and drummed with us for a bit, and with loads of other bands as well, but now he's gone and become a doctor, and that's workin' out really well for him.
Whatever you end up decidin' to do, make sure you're doin' it for the right reasons. If you need to get some money before you can start doin' exactly what you want, then that's all right. If you're choosin' one or the other because it's what you want to do, or because you aren't sure yet and you want to try one of 'em out, then that's all right. If you want to give both of 'em a go at once and see how things turn out, then that's all right as well. But you can't go into things askin' yourself whether or not you're goin' to make it, or else you might never be sure of what you want, and you might end up not doin' the thing that's best for you.
