I MEAN IF YOU INSIST I SUPPOSE I CAN

I insist on adding gifs for character visuals so I’ll add a cut after one or two to save space and sanity. Also I have no chill and can’t control how much I talk and for that I’m sorry.

Delilah Hearst is the wife of Samuel Hearst and mother of Elias and Abigail. Her role in the story is a mystery. Records will show that she died in childbirth. There are witnesses that will say the same thing, but there are also accounts of a woman of her likeness being seen roaming cult territory. Maybe she is working with Joseph Seed or maybe she is just a product off too much Bliss. Her children see her the most, so the latter is entirely plausible. She isn’t hostile. She is just kind of there. It’s quite possible that she never died, that her death was a fabrication created from a deal between Samuel and the Murphy family, but such a collaboration hasn’t been confirmed and no one knows what benefit it would provide each party.

What is known is the person Delilah was when she was alive. She was a firecracker. A woman who always stood up for her neighbors and condemned injustice in the county. She owned a garage. She rebuilt motorcycles. She made meals for friends when they were going through rough patches. She inserted herself into town councils and supported progressive ideas. But even she had secrets. Her marriage to Samuel wasn’t healthy or even wanted, but she never talked much about it. It’s commonly believed that it was an arranged union, but most people just leave that topic alone.

Samuel Hearst isn’t a big character within the actual story, but his role before the events of FC5 are ultimately what drives his children, Elias and Abigail into joining Eden’s Gate. In his life he was always known to be a self made man. He is controlling and vindictive, has some hidden agenda against a lot of different people in Hope County, quite the opposite of his wife. His family wasn’t well off when he was growing up and he seems to have taken that personally. He built his life doing physical labor and always seemed to have a dislike for people with advanced schooling, though it’s not really known why other than he is in the simplest terms, jealous of them.

He never cared much for Elias after he was born. He never cared much for his own family in general. His marriage was just another check off the list of things he felt had to be done and his disinterest showed. There was no love between him and Delilah, but her love for her son kept them together. When Delilah becomes pregnant with Abigail, Samuel’s attitude seemed to get worse and a curious friendship sparked between him and the Murphy family. After Delilah’s death, he went through the motions of mourning and raised his children, but his abuse of them would ultimately lead to his death.

I already talked about Joshua but I can explain his part in the story a bit more.

Joshua, like many others, knew that the Seeds were trouble as soon as they arrived in the county. It could be said that is because they were quick to cause trouble, but the simplest explanation is that they did some of the very same things that Joshua would have done himself. (As much as he hates John Seed he has to admit to himself that the idea of buying up a bunch of the land in Hope County is a delicious concept.) So from the beginning, Joshua prepared for the inevitable fight with the cult that was coming. He stockpiled guns and ammunition early on. He used those guns and supplies to place himself in a position of power, one that secure his role as a hero within the Resistance, despite his own motives being less than honorable. He is, on the surface, encouraging and inspires trust, but he has no real sympathy for loss within the Resistance. Rebekah has known Joshua’s true colors since she moved to the county, but it’s hard to discredit a man who has made his support of the Resistance and his disdain for the Seeds so well known.

Daniel Young has been alone for most of his life. When he was sixteen, his mother overdosed and his father took off, left the county and was never heard from again. He left Daniel alone in the house, without a note or a scrap of money. His family wasn’t well loved in the community, and while some kind souls offered to help Daniel find somewhere to go, Daniel was bitter and angry so he refused. He never finished school, taught himself to hunt, and barely scraped by. By the time he was eighteen, he was selling his kills and earning enough to survive, but he had no friends. He thought he liked it that way.

When Joseph Seed arrives on the scene, there is no hesitation from Daniel to join Eden’s Gate. It gives him a family, even if he is a bit hesitant to accept it in the beginning, and it gives him a purpose. He becomes a Hunter within Jacob’s region and he is very very good at what he does. Daniel’s first true friend within Eden’s Gate is Elias Hearst (who refused to shy away from Daniel’s prickly attitude and charmed his way into Daniel’s very small circle of important people). Daniel’s warm feelings towards Elias quickly turn into genuine affection and the two of them adopt a friends with benefits relationship (with inklings that it could become more). Unfortunately, Daniel’s dedication to Eden’s Gate winds up putting him up against Rebekah Colt and Elias’s own moral ambiguity forces him to choose between the deputy’s life and Daniel’s.

Hope Seed is the perfect thwart to her twin brother’s pessimistic attitude. She takes Luke’s cynicism towards their parents and refuses to let him dwell on it. She knows there is more to their father than everything she has been told (and Rebekah was honest with them when they were old enough to hear the whole story) and Hope’s greatest wish is for her family to be reunited. She leaves New Eden with Luke, promises Rebekah she will visit, and together the twins travel Hope County. They are excellent fighters, trained by their mother, and they fend for themselves. They make friends with Carmina Rye even though they know they aren’t welcome in Prosperity (because of their parentage).

When the Highwaymen take over Hope County, Luke and Hope see Carmina off and then return home for a time, hoping their mother will have some kind of plan in place with New Eden. But with Ethan Seed running things there, the pair don’t stay long. Before they leave, Rebekah tells her children to go north and find Elias Hearst who has rumored to have been spotted in the area. The rumors turn out to be true and Elias takes the twins under his wing, teaching them his own (more neutral) way of doing things. When Captain Harte Santos finds his way to Hope County and joins the fight against the Highwaymen, Elias sends Hope to find him and bring him to Elias, who has his own plans in place for fighting against the Highwaymen.

Gabriel March is a good man with good intentions. He left home (Bozeman, Montana) and family (his father, mother, and five sisters) when he was eighteen and joined the military. He was excellent in the military and it was pretty obvious that he would be part of it for a very long time. As a person, Gabriel is kind and considerate. He often puts the needs of everyone around him ahead of his own desires, and while it is commendable, his lack of self interest can be a flaw. He wants to help everyone else and thinks very little of himself. Which is why his immense self confidence can seem out of place. After the Collapse, Gabriel rushes home but finds it completely destroyed and his family gone.

He came to Hope County with Thomas Rush and Harte Santos. (Harte even flirts with him on the way over but Gabriel is quick to let him know that, while he is flattered, Harte isn’t his type.) He was separated from the group during the Highwaymen attack on the train and happened to stumble his way to Hope County, but passed out not long after arriving. When he wakes up he finds himself under Abigail Hearst’s protection with Rachel Jessop tending to his wounds. As soon as he is fit to travel, Gabriel takes the fight to the Highwaymen and helps the women in anyway that he can. In terms of the game, he is a gun for hire, and often helps Harte around the county. Eventually Abigail sends Gabriel to the north where he meets Elias and there might just be a spark of something to be between them.
