"would you look at that"

Ana had always been a sucker for Christmas decorations, and even though she was spending Christmas alone this year, absolutely nothing would change that. The holiday wasn’t necessarily her favorite, but the trees, the bulbs, all of the decor, she loved. While she decorated, she invited Joslyn over for company. She looked over at her friend(?), whatever she was, with a smile and handed her a glass of wine. Moving away, she studied the tree, “I think it’s almost done. I just need to plug the lights in, but I’ll wait ‘til it’s dark.” Ana walked back over to her box of decorations and pulled out the mistletoe. She walked back over to Jos. With a laugh, she held it over their heads and kissed her briefly, smiling into it. Before long, she pulled away and hung up the mistletoe.

India wasn’t shy by any means and had done bolder things than kissing a stranger in a grocery store, but being stopped by an anxious/excited, twenty-something grocery store clerk because she happened to be standing under a mistletoe with the beautiful, Italian woman she’d met recently caught her off guard and had her hesitating. Likely the only reason he’d shouted at the two of them was to satisfy his craving to see two women kiss, but it was tradition and she was the last person who would ever turn down the opportunity to kiss a beautiful person. Lifting her shoulders into a shrug, she turned so that she was facing the other, a smirk pulling at her lips as she pressed down on the tips of her toes. “Merry Christmas to me,” she whispered as she closed the gap between them, not giving the woman much chance to speak before pressing her lips against hers.

"Don't let me down."

That was the last thing Ana planned on doing. Whatever happened, Joslyn was important to her. She didn’t want to let her down, miss anything important in her life. She wanted to prove how important she was to her, and that being there for her, no matter what. It was... devotion, and she wasn’t sure how to put it mild terms. They were blurry, she didn’t want to complicate them anymore. So she took her hand in her owns and pressed a brief kiss to her lips. “I won’t, just... try to trust me, okay?” She paused, “I know that’s hard. But I’m here for you, no matter what, and I won’t let you down. You’re important to me.”

“I don’t know what I’m doing.”

India’s gaze met her step-sister’s. Her eyes were wet and red and it was obvious that she had not slept well recently. The signs were all there. The writer recognized them and recalled a time when the face looking back at her in the mirror had looked tired and sullen. It was heartbreak. A different kind of heartbreak, one brought on by not allowing oneself to have what it was one wanted, but at the end of the day, heartbreak was heartbreak.. “Crying, Jos. An odd concept for you, I know, but it happens to the best of us.” Her tone was soft, gentle, and filled with understanding. “I don’t know why I’m crying,” the other confessed, the sigh that left her afterward filled with frustration. “Because you’re falling hard and it isn’t what you do, but the risk is worth it, Jos. Even if it all ends horribly, it’s worth it— trust me.”

“How could you be so heartless?”- Miles

Never would Blaze have expected to actually give a damn what someone else said but suddenly it felt like she’d been slapped in the face. At first she didn’t know how to respond. She wanted to go for blatant denial but it didn’t seem like something he’d buy nor did she really want him to. “Life made me this way,” Blaze finally responded catching his eyes with her large green ones. “Having a heart just gets you hurt, Miles. It’s not worth it.”

“What? No, I’m not drinking the drink you told me about. This one clearly has other berries”, Billie pointed at the drink with a frown. “I’m ready for whatever you want to tell me. Or not tell me, it’s fine. Just get this over with...”, she took a big gulp and looked at the other woman, “no, I couldn’t do this sober. So it’s either this or... never again, like the raven from Poe. Wait, no, he said nevermore. Never Again is a song by Kelly Clarkson, good song, you should li– not the point!”
