Where is it headed
A jotun would pick up a grown ass gruff man on a thru-hike like a duckling and be like "ohh my god poor thing is so lost and full of dirt and tired i need to get it a warm beverage and some food" and the man would just have to deal with it.
Trying to work out the awkward teenhood stages of a Jotun. Part of their associations with shape-shifting is just how odd a family gathering looks. When they molt they look like gangly, crusty wtf-creatures that chase you through the woods
Main reason Jotun aren't waging wars and expanding their range despite being over 50ft tall and territorial
-They can't survive outside of their extremely rare biome and are more concerned with protecting their own turf from their peers.
-Their food grows free from the ground in abundance, so long as it keeps doing that they are more or less satisfied
-Their caloric needs can't be met without a steady supply of nectar and wood from a single tree species endemic to their biome
-Their sheer mass means they tend to be pretty phlegmatic and prone to conserving energy
-In direct sunlight they are blinded, confused, lethargic and their skin sloughs off. Most of their range is in a place that does not have night during summer
-Stress can kill them, either by triggering a heart attack, causing their organs to shut down or causing their enzyme pouch to rupture and essentially digest them from the inside out
-Changes to their routine stresses them out
-Theres like 20 of them in each habitable zone and they are all too busy beefing with each other to even consider humans
-They have jacking off and getting high at home already
Ok so jotun hunters use fire to drive them out, and they tend to be boasting young men with way too much disposable income. And they wear these special shirts. And the shirts are cleansed by fire instead of destroyed. And it’s seen as almost magical.
