That’s not my philosophy—that’s the NFL’s philosophy. You buy into it, because you’re in the heat of the moment and everyone else buys into it, too. But it takes a toll on you. There are consequences.

We can speculate all we want about Belcher's concussions or the unrelenting pressure he was put under as an NFL player and whether or not that played any role in his downfall, but the fact remains that he did take the life of someone else with him when he took his own. For that reason, I'm glad the author included the following quote: "'Jovan was my friend,' says Thomas Jones, the former Chiefs running back. 'I loved him, and I wish I could have helped him work through the demons. But what he did was a horrible, horrible act. There’s no getting around that.'”
