Linking back to this simply because nobody listens to Scarce, and so very few know/remember them. And to not have heard Obviously Midnight at least once in one's life would be a definite loss.

Mentioning the release-version is significant simply because the earlier UK release featured Mike Levesque on drums and the 1996 US release was a complete re-recording with Joe Propatier in that role. I still don't know if re-recording the entire album after Chick Graning had his near-fatal aneurysm was an artistic one due to the line-up change (given that Graning had to learn to talk and move from scratch again, let alone play and sing), or if the tapes were lost.
This version of this song is perhaps perfect.

Watch this awesome trailer for the documentary Days Like These, on Scarce, the Rhode Island rock band that suffered tragedy when their lead singer/guitarist, Chick Graning, suffered a brain hemorapge before the release of their debut album, 1995's Deadsexy. After a year of therapy he was able to learn how to talk, walk, and play guitar again. They have since been touring and writing new material. Their bass player Joyce is one badass woman. Chick Graning was also once engaged to Tanya Donnelly of Belly.

I'm going to be brutally honest, I did not find any part of this book to be either entertaining or worth recommending. It's not a title I would have picked up on my own if I didn't run the children's/teen department in my store.
According to the blurb on the back; Alexis is a small, pasty, shy, greasy-haired kid who gains confidence and makes friends through the bass, going from loser to enviable rock chick. If only...
The writing is trite, and bland. Alexis is a whiny ninny, who's constantly complaining. It's preachy and stereotypical. Alexis finds power in herself based on whether or not she has a boyfriend.
Apparently, the novella is aimed towards teens; however, it's retardedly short. Only 88 pages. Couple that with the tacky illustrations and it comes off as a 'book' for reluctant, young readers, though the content within begs for you to believe it really is a teen book.
Ugh.
It is short, that's about the only thing I found redeeming about it. End unflattering review.
