#JoycelynElders is the first #AfricanAmerican to ever serve as #surgeongeneral. She had to resign from her position for ideas which were, honestly, ahead of her time. She spoke out in support of drug legalization as a way to reduce crime, and she continues to speak out against abstinence only education. She was particularly concerned with reducing teen pregnancy in the African American community and enabling black women of all ages to take control of their reproductive health. Considering that gynecology began with experiments performed on black slave women, that is an important goal. I tried something different and used #watercolorpencils today.
