Spent my day painting this play-castle at a local pediatrician’s office! It took exactly 6 hours of non stop hustling to finish it today
Pediatric Intensive Care Dr. Tanya Haj Hassan, who volunteered in Gaza, shared accounts of the horrors she witnessed in Gaza’s hospitals before the UN.
Haj Hassan said, "Spend just five minutes in a hospital there and it will become painfully clear that Palestinians are being intentionally massacred, starved, and stripped of everything needed to sustain human life."
She recalled the story of "13-year-old Amir, who sustained severe neck trauma and kept calling for his sister," yet "he didn't recognize that she was the girl in the bed next to him because she had been burned beyond recognition."
Dr. Tanya Haj-Hassan dared the participants before her to "take a second and imagine all of the children that I just spoke about, their mothers, their fathers, desperately seeking medical care and searching for hope… Then the electricity cuts out. The entrance to the hospital is struck by a missile."

My opinion on pediatric surgeon
Today I want to share my admiration for the work of a pediatric surgeon. The care and treatment of children is one of the most important responsibilities we can assume as a society. Pediatric surgeons play a crucial role in the health and well-being of future generations. The value of pediatric medicine lies in the ability to provide hope and healing to the most vulnerable among us. Pediatric surgeons possess not only exceptional technical skill, but also unparalleled compassion and empathy. They combine surgical skill with a holistic approach to address the medical and emotional needs of their young patients and their families. Pediatric surgery presents unique challenges that require an extraordinary level of care, precision and understanding. The pediatric surgeons I admire demonstrate an unwavering commitment to the well-being of their patients, as well as an ability to navigate complex medical situations with grace and determination.

MMWR Booster #35: Epidemiologic and Clinical Features of Children and Adolescents Aged <18 Years with Monkeypox — United States, May 17–September 24, 2022
Top 5 Takeaways
Prevalence and Demographics: Monkeypox virus (MPXV) infections in children and adolescents aged <18 years constituted only 0.3% of all U.S. cases during the study period, with no critical illnesses or deaths reported. The majority of these cases were among non-Hispanic Black or African American and Hispanic or Latino children and adolescents.
Transmission Modes: Younger children typically acquired MPXV through skin-to-skin contact with infected caregivers, while adolescents were more frequently exposed through male-to-male sexual contact.
Clinical Features and Treatment: Most cases in children and adolescents were not severe, and the majority did not require hospitalization. Common symptoms included lesions on the trunk, and some received antiviral treatments.
Prevention and Public Health Implications: The study underscores the importance of prevention measures, such as vaccination and education about monkeypox transmission, particularly in household settings and among sexually active adolescents.
Equity in Health Care Access: The findings highlight the need for equitable access to monkeypox vaccination, testing, and treatment, particularly among Black and Hispanic communities.
Note:
This MMWR Article was created prior to the conventional renaming of Monkeypox to its more standard and appropriate name, Mpox. To avoid confusion, Monkeypox is retained when writing this article, but all future works should use Mpox.
