Musical polymath Kieran Hebden has been able to keep a foot in a large variety of scenes over the years, seemingly as at ease sitting down with post rock heads as he is conversing in the improvisational jazz world. Electronically speaking, his productions as Four Tet have leaned toward the listening end of the spectrum for the most part, but his recent interest in club music foreshadowed a lovely collaboration with Burial earlier this year, as well as this 12-inch which sees his shuffling beat anchor in at around 116 BPM, and his stuttering female lead lend herself neatly to the dubstep community. (Remixes have already appeared from Roska and Joy Orbison, the latter of which is fantastic.) BNJMN - See Thru Stars (Rush Hour Direct Current, 2011)

2011 war ein gutes Jahr. Dubstep war erwachsen geworden und ging dank Künstlern wie Scuba, Joy Orbison oder eben dem unaussprechbaren BNJMN fleißig mit House in die Kiste (ehe es sich irgendwann einen schlimmen Virus von EDM und Werbefilm-Produzenten eingefangen hatte). In 2011 aber sorgte dies für eine ganze Reihe unglaublich kreativer Tracks zwischen allen Genre-Grenzen. Hier machte sich BNJMN uns bereits bekannt, mit “See Thru Stars” präsentiert er uns seinen wahrscheinlich für viele gefälligsten Track. Verspielt, eingängig und ein klein bisschen verrückt kommt die Nummer daher. Die Chords drehen frei, Vögel zwitschern uns ein Lied dazu, der Bass drückt uns munter einen rein. So stelle ich mir das alte Absinth vor, könnte man das Zeug hören. Konnte man wahrscheinlich sogar wirklich. Und dann durch die Sterne gucken.
