Recently got my tree up and decorated. And I was wondering how you think Bucky would react to getting one and what holiday traditions you think he’d want to carry over from back in the 40’s and which new holiday traditions he would hate or like. I know that’s a lot, lol.
It’s not a lot, doll! Thanks so much for the drabble request! Sorry this was kinda short.
Bucky wasn’t really a fan of the holidays back in the 40s. It was always freezing in Brooklyn, and it would be the worst time of year for Stevie’s health. But one of the few warm places back then was this one dance hall he used to love. Every holiday season, they would play an upbeat Christmas song and everyone in the club would be dancing. It was a fond memory of his, one of the few he still had to himself.
Your first Christmas with Bucky was kind of a melting pot of the old and the new. You bought some vinyl Christmas records and made sure to have that one song he always perked up about, while introducing some of your own holiday habits.
Like homemade cereal mix, with nuts and pretzels and the heirloom recipe for delicious seasoning. Bucky loved it, not only because it made the apartment smell good, but because it was delicious. He ate handfuls of it at a time, much to your giggling dismay.
As an homage to his family and their religion, you had bought a menorah and celebrated Hanukkah with him. The two of you didn’t exchange presents, but Bucky reminisced and told you stories of his childhood.
Christmas wasn’t a foreign thing to him, because Steve used to celebrate. However, the lengths you went to for the one day was shocking to him. You, sneaking out of bed in the dead of night to put presents under the tree, didn’t quite please him (he didn’t want his best girl leaving the bed at all, let alone when he was half-asleep). But, in the morning, when you excitedly dragged him out of bed, the joy pouring from you made it all worthwhile.
