Seriously, what are the odds after two good years?
So it’s come to my attention that not only is the rising WH class by-and-large populated by irresponsible, immature, drama-loving idiots, but there are only like three good prose writers in the bunch [edit: two, I’m not impressed by one of those I was told was in the ‘good’ pile]? And not a good workshopper to be found? I mean, that’s not as unexpected - you really need a particular dynamic in workshops or you’re not going to end up with a useful group. Either way, I no longer take my year for granted, that’s for sure. Really dodged a bullet there.
I’ve been told this sort of fluctuation is standard, though, so here’s hoping the incoming class of 2015 is a bit more serious in their endeavors. Writers’ House is a great program but it’s up to people to make the most of it. Sort of like a Humanities education...
P.S. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the rising poetry group but I don’t know nothin’ about them except they both slam and jam.
