Finger detangling does not detangle jack. There are a myriad of suitable combs and brushes, yes BRUSHES, that are way more effective and efficient than using your fingers. Finger detanglers always have excessive breakage at the root area due to weeks of knots that were not properly removed. Professional stylists use implements to get the job done. And so should you. Good morning. #JRJNYC
I really am good at this. We did a full color makeover. All semi-permanent and permanent color. NO BLEACH. #JRJNYC #naturalhair #Wella #Colorist #300for150ColorEvent
Okay, ladies. It's about to be that time of year again where we are wetting and re-styling our hair nearly every day and using heavy cream-based products that do not dry quickly. And by "we" I mean "y'all". Letting hair stay wet is a quick and easy to develop mildew and mold on the hair AND scalp. Once it develops, it is very difficult to kill. You usually need to use high heat or otherwise every time you wet your hair you'll smell like the bottom of the towel bin at Planet Fitness. The one in the men's locker room. Leaving your hair wet for hours is no bueno (another reason the Max Hydration method is a bunch of crap). Think of how nasty your CLEAN laundry is if left wet in the washer. You have to rewash it, don't you? And you'll probably need to add bleach and dry on high heat to kill the scent. And sometimes you can't, you just end up throwing the towels away. Don't be the reason people are crunching up their noses at your job. DON'T SATURATE IT EVERY DAY or DRY YOUR HAIR. It's a public service. #JRJNYC #naturalhair #wigs #weaves
Leave these products at the store. These are product company money-makers that have no place in a streamlined, effective regimen and have absolutely no performance value. #JRJNYC
Product companies DO NOT make money on people like me. I purchase the same shampoo and conditioner over and over again. Why? Because my products work pretty much perfectly. And because I don't expect products to give me different hair. A product company can't sell me a "moisturizing leave-in" because I know my hair isn't dry. A company can't sell me a hair thickening oil because I know it can't make my hair thicker. I know what my hair can and cannot do and I know no product will EVER change that so companies can't sell me a new and different line every 3 months because I know better. A new label color and fragrance is not enough to get me to purchase new products. Very few, VERY FEW, scientific breakthroughs happen with regards to hair care on a regular basis so it really is pointless for me to me to check out every new product. What I use works wonderfully on me and my clients. Product companies TELL you you have an issue with your hair so you'll go out and buy useless products. Don't fall for it... #JRJNYC
Oldie but goodie: Unfortunately, for those of us who have allergies having a big fro or curly style isn't doing us any favors. Curly hair is pretty much a filter, picking up everything around us (thank God you can't smoke in bars anymore). Allergens and pollen are no exception. I've found the little white airy buds DEEP in my hair after a day in the city. Considering we shampoo infrequently, we are basically carrying around an allergen-filled puff. Shampooing/rinsing more frequently can help, as does washing your bonnet daily in the sink (it will dry by bedtime on a doorknob). If you're a bad sufferer, this may be the time for flat twists or an updo. Though, truthfully if my hair looks good, I'll just have to Claritin it up... #naturalhair #jrjnyc #HairStylistLife
