Sydney, Australia Artist Wins 2016 Bulgari Art Award for Vanitas-Inspired Painting
Congratulations to Jude Rae, a Sydney artist who won this year’s Bulgari Art Award for a vanitas-inspired still life of a fire extinguisher, gas cynlinders and other industrial objects arranged on a tabletop.
“Somehow, it’s like a 21st century vanitas painting,” said Rae, the fifth winner of the $80,000 Bulgari Art Award.
“That’s why I found myself wondering if I had somehow stumbled back into another tradition of still life: that quality of worldly excess,” said Rae.
