Halloween drabble

“I still can’t believe that Emily didn’t want to come here. What does she have against Halloween?” Alvin whined a bit as he, Jude and Gaius stood off to the side, watching all the guest mix and mingle. Jude sighed as Gaius said nothing. They all wished that she would get over her hatred of parties and everything to do with upper-class things.

“I know, she would’ve had fun. I just don’t get it. She would’ve known people, to include Driselle.” Gaius still said nothing as Jude made his comment. He should’ve made her come but, even with him as her escort, it wasn’t enough to convince him. It was then that a strange woman came in, making all three of the men’s heads turn. Alvin let out a whistle to which earned him an elbow in the gut from Jude.

“That was rude Alvin.” Jude glared at him as Gaius chuckled. Something about the woman was familiar.

“She is beautiful though Jude, you have to admit.” Gaius finally spoke. The woman that strode in wore and all silver gown that was strapless with a sweetheart neckline. There was some design on the dress that accented it well. It almost took away from how pale the person was. Their dark hair done up in an elegant up-do and the mask she wore was the same shade of silver for the base, with many crystals for accent. Something he didn’t think Emily would wear. She hated the idea of wearing anything that resembled snow.

The woman faced them, but paid no mind to the three at all. She looked around and sighed. Gaius wondered what she was looking for, or maybe checking to make sure no one she wanted to run into was there. Jude and Alvin watched her as well, very much intrigued by her.

“Well then, I think I know who prince charming is going for.” Alvin grinned as he joked. Gaius sighed before glaring at his comrade.

“If Emily were here then yes, but I’m not going to…” Jude tugged at the king’s sleeve. The woman turned around and suddenly they could see it. Glistening brightly was a gold hilt. All three just sat there and wondered who Emily was trying to fool.

“Seriously?” Alvin couldn’t believe it. She bitched all week about not wanting to go, and she sneaks in.

“She could’ve left the sword at home…” Jude was flabbergasted.

“I think I got her into that habit.” Gaius confessed as he watched his friend mingle slightly. Maybe she had a reason to sneak in like this?

“No excuse.” Alvin stood firm on that one. It was then that Leia appeared, dressed as the opposite of Alvin. Gaius still couldn’t believe that a masquerade was the theme for this party. Everyone was in costumes as it was.

“Hey, did anyone see that Emily just walked in?” She asked quietly in case Emily got too close.

“Yeah, just now. Sword give it away?” Leia nodded.

“Yeah, Elize and Elle were pissed. Apparently, that was the dress that was bought for her too, so they are happy about that at least.” That made both Judea and Gaius wonder.

“What was Elle going for this year?” Everyone matched it seemed. Alvin and Leia, Jude and Elize, Muzet and Rowan weren’t there, and the only one who had their own was Elle. And if matching was the goal, then that explained Gaius’s costume as well.

“Couples.” Elize said as she approached everyone, “except for Jude and myself.”

“So that explains Prince Charming here.” Alvin jerked his thumb at Gaius who glared at him.

“So, it seems…” It was then that Elle came over dressed as a fairy.

“And here’s the fairy godmother…” Alvin teased. Elle stuck her tongue out at him.

“So then, did Emily actually show up?” She asked with stars in her eyes. Matchmaker was more like it.

“Yes, she did.” Elize nodded.

“Yay! First dance is almost here.” She was excited. She just wished Rowan and Muzet would have come. Alvin, who was dressed as a wolf, and Leia little red riding hood, took off together to get some food. Jude, who was none too happy to be the mad scientist. At least he got away with goggles for a mask.

Elize grabbed his arm and led him away. She was a doll like creature he ‘brought to life’. Everyone wore mask that fit not only the theme, but color as well. Gaius had to ask. The girl was smarter than most people knew.

“Tell me, why did you dress us all up like this?” The mistake was letting Elle dictate their costumes.

“I was hoping for Alvin and Leia to finally get together. I also wanted to see how you and Emily would look in full regal regalia.” Gaius sighed at that. Rashugal and Elympios regalia was different from Auj Oule.

“Still, I feel ridiculous.” He was mainly mentioning his hair being tied back.

“That’s what you get for letting it grow so long…” Elle gave him a ‘really’ look. She smiled when she saw Emily though. She looked like a princess right out of her storybooks. She couldn’t wait until Gaius and Emily danced now. When Driselle called for everyone to partner up, Elle got behind Gaius and pushed him towards Emily. He got the hint.

Gaius walked towards Emily, who just rejected a third partner. He held his hand out to her and smiled.

“Shall I have this first dance?” He asked her softly. She held back for a moment before smiling back and taking his hand. Elle sat on the sidelines with a glimmer of hope in her eyes now.

“This is so cool, just like my stories!” How she wished Ludger was there to see this. The music then started.

Gaius, who thankfully learned how to ballroom dance thanks to Emily, took the lead with no issue. The song was quick paced, but nothing they couldn’t keep up with. He glided with her and twirled her around when applicable, dipped her a few times, all flawlessly.

“I wish this could last forever.” Emily finally said breathlessly. She hummed to the song as they continued. She knew this one?

“If only moments like these could.” He tried to keep his voice soft so that she couldn’t tell it was him. The mask were a blessing at this rate. When the song ended, Emily wanted to go to the balcony to get some air.

“Can you escort me to the balcony? Otherwise I’ll get stopped every step.” She sighed. She didn’t like these men falling all over her. Gaius was happy to oblige. He held his arm out for her to take, to which she wrapped hers around it, and let him lead the way.

“Oh, my goodness, they look so pretty together!” Elle was excited. She made her way to the balcony so that she could watch the two.

“Tell me, why do you carry a sword in the back of your dress?” Emily blushed at that question.

“Because sometimes Cinderella can protect herself.” Fair enough. They talked for what felt like hours about nothing in particular. It was then that they realized the time when Driselle announced that the unmasking was about to happen.

“Alright everyone, we are upon the bewitching hour! Please prepare to unmask yourself in five minutes!” Emily looked like she needed to scurry home.

“What’s the matter, horses about to turn back into mice?” Gaius teased as he watched her shoulder tense up.

“I just…” She hesitated. Why did she hesitate so badly? They sat like that the entirety of the time and once the countdown started, she had no choice but to stay.

“Together?” Gaius asked as he held her mask up with one hand, and untied it with the other. Emily mimicked his movements for his mask.

“Together.” Five, four, three, two…

As soon as everyone said one, they removed each other’s mask. Emily was shocked. The person she spent the entire night with. Gaius just smirked.

“Why did you give us that show this entire week?” He asked as he cupped her cheek. At this rate, both had a small audience that they were semi unaware about.

“I…I…” She had no real answer. She wanted to come but he was right, she made a huge deal about not going.

“I don’t know…’ He lifted her head gently so that they looked into each other’s eyes.

“I’m glad you came though.” He pulled her in for a kiss, something they both knew everyone was waiting for. What they didn’t know was that Driselle snapped a picture of the two kissing, right before Leia and Alvin fell on each other, trying to get a better look.

Franken-Monster

(Closed Halloween starter for @judesdetermination)

This is bad. This is really, really bad! 

Elize was so preoccupied that she didn’t notice the trail of rain water and mud that followed her as she pounded down the desolate halls of Helioburg. It was late, but the girl knew that Jude would be at the lab, working. 

At least, he better be. She didn’t think anyone else could really help her. Not with this. She cringed at every thunder clap in the violent storm outside. Really, it was a wonder she had gotten to Helioburg at all in that weather.

After what seemed an eternity, Elize burst through Jude’s door. “Jude! I need your help!” Without waiting for a response, the girl ran forward, slamming her fists on his desk. “There has been a terrible accident. You see, I, well, I was casting Resurrection, and at the same time a lightning bolt hit. It redirected my spell. It hit a King Cockatrice, and... and....” Elize closed her eyes and shook her head. “I don’t know what it did, but it made it super powerful. It’s wrecking havoc, and weapons and artes don’t have any effect on it!”

The girl took a breath and looked up at Jude. “We need to stop it.”

You all have been the most positive thing to ever happen to me, and I literally don’t know how to even thank you all half of the time? Like...
