He was trying not to be skeptical of all the new things happening since the team up. Mr. LaRusso had a lot to say about karate that sounded so much like all the pansy stuff Kreese beat out of him. But that should have been a good sign, right? Nothing good came from Kreese’s way of teaching, so doing something completely different should have been a step in the right direction. And don’t get him wrong, a lot of this new way of karate was making sense to him. It felt more natural, like he could tap into all of himself and not just his anger. He just wished Mr. LaRusso’s way of teaching was a little less . . . borning.

Fortunately, along with the new teaching style came new friends of the dojo. One of whom heard Hawk’s plea for something more exciting and mentioned she might’ve had what he was looking for. He didn’t know what to expect, but he was hoping despite her status as a Miyagi-do veteran it would be as badass as she said it would be.

“I’m ready for anything.”

udyati never had any pets. her mom’s allergic. which was really too bad because she always wanted a dog. 

and maybe the universe heard her plea, because she ran into someone with seven - yes, seven! - shiba inu’s and figured it’d be very rude if she let the lady struggle with all of the leashes. so she offered to walk with her to the clinic. the dog lady was a chatter box and enthousiastically told udyati that she was a good person. certainly, her dogs wouldn’t have let her get so close, otherwise.

the smile that udyati gave the dog lady was a little brittle around the edges, but no less sincere. 

(the younger of the two had debated on telling the story of the haughty park lady, back when she still lived in europe, who was content to let her white passing neighbor pet her puppies, but who - for some reason - explicitly forbade udyati from touching or petting them. in the end, udyati decided against telling that particular story.) 

she said her goodbyes to the dog lady soon after they entered the animal clinic, and was about to step out again, when a voice reached her ears. miss pierce, the vet, stood next to one of her colleagues, her kind eyes trained on udyati’s.

this time, udyati’s smile was a little warmer. “that’s what my amma always says too, ma’am.” and with a little wave, and a soft but sincere ‘have a nice day!’, udyati stepped out of the door, back into the bright sunshine.

   she  led  her  around  the  back  of  the  house  where  daniel’s  private  dojo  was  located.  it  was  once  a  familiar  path  earlier  in  their  marriage,  but  it’d  taken  some  days  to  reacquaint  herself  with  walking  back  to  this  part  of  the  property  since  her  husband  unearthed  the  sanctuary  again.  " what's  in  that  bag  and  why  are  you  hiding  it  here? "
