Water Within
Some days the need to let her scales erupt was met with heaviness. During those times Kendall withdrew, did what she needed to on her own. When she was in better moods she often called Lee over. A rich woman she was not, not when she bounced around from job to job, but she was good at saving. Two years ago she’d saved enough to redo her master bathroom into a grand affair. Her tub was big enough for four bodies to stretch out in, which meant it was utterly spacious for two women with tails to unfurl.
It could be said that Kendall wasn’t necessarily in a happy mood these days, but in her sorrow was a desire to not be alone, especially since older memories peppered the fresh damage done by her time under the tree. And so she’d called, asked the other merwoman to rejuvenate with her, and now she stood before the tub adding flower petals and scented oils. It wasn’t a true rejuvenation if it wasn’t pampered and filled with aesthetics. Lee teased her about it, but secretly she thought her friend enjoyed it too.
She flinched at that first knock on the door, chastising her wildly beating heart. Was the fear going to come in pathetic waves like this forever? Kendall steadied herself as she went to answer the door, trying to clothe herself in normalcy, to soak it into her skin like the water she was about to dip into. Wood creaked and she plastered a semi convincing smile on her features. “I brought the tub, I hope you brought snacks. You know how hungry I get during this shit.”
