Day 5 - The Challenger

Junpei’s my favourite character from 999.

He is portrayed as a common college student, with no special skills, average knowledge. He cares for others, but he can also be a deceiver and other times a bit indelicate (for example the way he talks to Lotus or Seven, sometimes). He feels like one of us, a real person.

At the same time, his relationship with Akane, during childhood, was one of the most beautiful ones I’ve ever seen and everything was portrayed in such a beautiful and melancholic way, it made feel sad and happy.

I remember finishing the game, and feeling an emptyness inside, knowing that Junepei was not suppose to become a real couple, but a duo who was destined to meet and separate in different times of life.

Ztd came to prove it differently with the post-payoff 2 story, although it gave me a sour flavour on how things were so rushed given all the suffering they went through.

About this drawing, I meant to portray Junpei and his connection with the “For-You” doll and the number [5]. The past and the present. The present that determined the past.
