Hi! My nameās June. Iām the caretaker for my schoolās corn snake. Iām new to reptile care, so hereās some pictures of the snakeās current set up. I want to see if things are suitable.

The enclosure is approximately 20 gallons. Thereās a heating mat under the left side. There are two hides, one short climbing log, and a water bowl. The substrate is thin wood chips.
The picture of the snakeās snout was taken pre-shedding (occurred about 2 days ago).
I have taken care of him for about 1.5 months. I need to clean the substrate out, but I donāt know what substrate to use or how to sterilize the container.
He used to be much more social (climbing around, attempting to escape, enjoying handling) but in the time Iāve cared for him, heās mostly been curled up in the turtle shell hide. He has come out momentarily to feed or to stretch himself between the two hides.
He is eating well, one mouse per week.
Iāve opened his lid a few times to attempt to handle him, but he has been hidden for the most part, so I backed off.
