i care for several animals through my school. i’m relatively new to both the job and animal care in general.

i like bugs, snakes, invertebrates, vulture culture, and animal welfare, and so most of my posts will be about these things.

i will try not to post pictures of injuries or other disturbing things. however, some text posts may talk about those topics. feel free not to follow or to block tags such as #insects #animal injury and the like.

Something I have learned while working in conservation and the outdoor industry is learn to love bugs. This may sound like bug lover propaganda, but honestly, the number of people I've spoken to who "didn't see anything of interest" on their hikes is wild. Like, I can't relate because there is a pretty well endless supply of lil guys to see if you just look at stuff real close or turn over rocks or logs and BAM free guys to observe. Like, sorry you didn't see that super rare bird on your hike, but I saw a pretty moth and a super cool gold beetle :)

Thwaitesia argentiopunctata known as the sequined spider, mirror spider, or twin-peaked Thwaitesia, is a species of spider found in almost all states of Australia. It is known to have a reflective abdomen that plays a crucial role in their camouflage to protect them from predators in the forest canopy. The scales look like solid pieces of mirror glued to the spider's back, but they can actually change size depending on how threatened the spider feels. I was today years old when I heard about the incredible Incense-Cedar Wood Wasp. Syntexis libocedrii is the only living species of Symphytan in the Anaxyelidae. It is considered a living fossil since the family has an extensive Mesozoic fossil record. It has the unique ability to oviposit in burnt incense-cedar. The wood is often still smoldering when the sawfly is laying its eggs. Nature is fascinating.
