Got to trek through the jungle with a once elephant and tiger hunter and now a jungle tour guide in search for the Rafflesia flower. Last time I tried to hike from Old Bank (the main town on isla Bastimentos) to Wizard Beach (the first beach on the island, on the other side of the town) it was absolute hell. Almost an hour of sweating and cursing and being covered in mud and mosquitoes. Totally worth it to get to the beach but still pretty horrible to do. After months of avoiding it, me and some friends hiked there again and the change is impressive! The local government decided to open up the path a little bit more, clean the way and even try to place some wood steps every now and then. It was such an enjoyable experience and now I try to go there as often as I can. One con though: a lot more people in that beach.

La última vez que traté de caminar desde Old Bank (el pueblo principal en isla Bastimentos) hasta playa Wizard (la primera playa en la isla, justo al otro lado de Old Bank) fue un absoluto infierno. Casi una hora de estar sudando, maldiciendo, enterrándome en barro y estar cubierta de mosquitos. Valió totalmente la pena para llegar hasta la playa pero igual fue horrible. Luego de meses de evitar hacer el mismo recorrido, fui con unos amigos otra vez ¡y el cambio es tremendo!. El gobierno local decidió abrir un poco más el camino, limpiarlo e incluso tratar de poner algunos troncos de árboles como escaleritas para facilitar el proceso. Lo disfruté tanto que ahora trato de ir allá tan seguido como puedo. Sólo una queja: ahora hay mucha más gente en esa playa. (en Wizard Beach, Isla Bastimentos, Panama)
