Rare clip of a ritual to bless the ancestral spirits at the biggest Kapok tree I've ever seen in my life. Most people of the Upper Suriname River believe in a traditional Afro-Surinamese religion. The Kapok tree (Ceiba pentandra) plays a huge role in this religion and is like the "Mother tree". It is said that the ancestral spirits reside and guard this tree which is mostly closeby to a jungle village. Like a birthday, there is a special day in the year when all family members come together and celebrate and consult their ancestors with many different rituals between the roots of the enormous tree. I was not allowed to film the rituals, but I felt blessed that I was invited to come by and to make a very short clip of the happening. The family also allowed me to witness a few rituals which was truly amazing to experience.
