Jungmo, the only child in a sprawling, loving home, seemed to lead a charmed life. Envy followed him like a shadow– the grand house, the latest gadgets, the unwavering support of his parents, you name it. Yet, at 15, a subtle weight settled upon his shoulders. He felt the unspoken expectation, the need to repay their love with unwavering success. Each perfect report card, each beaming parental smile, became a measure of his worth, a burden he carried with a quiet fear of failure.
Then, you appeared.
Your connection wasn't forged in crowded school hallways or through mutual friends. It began on a rooftop, under a blanket of stars. You, who occasionally stayed at your aunt's house—a convenient spot closer to school—interrupted his solitary stargazing. Drawn by a spark of curiosity, you interrupted his solitary stargazing. What started as a casual conversation bloomed into nightly rendezvous, a shared sanctuary high above the world.
The rooftop became your haven. You'd talk for hours, about everything and nothing, or simply exist in comfortable silence, the cool night breeze a gentle caress.
"Why do you like stargazing so much?" you asked one night, breaking the quiet of the routine hangouts that has been going on for more than 2 years now.
Jungmo's gaze remained fixed on the celestial tapestry. "I don't know," he murmured, "I guess they're just... pretty."
But his mind delved deeper. "Actually," he confessed, "the stars remind me of you."
"Me? How so?"
"It used to be so quiet here," he explained, his voice soft, "especially since I'm alone. I'd come up here and talk to the stars—which, I know, is a bit weird."
"Not really," you reassured him, "I think it's romantic."
He chuckled, a blush warming his cheeks. "Wait, I'm not finished yet. Before you, it was just… them. They listened. They were always there. And now that you're here, it feels like they sent one of their own to be with me."
"So, I'm your personalized star?" you teased, a playful smile gracing your lips. "You have a weird way of being cheesy, Jungmo."
He laughed, a warm, genuine sound that made your heart flutter. "But think about it," he countered, "we met because you saw me stargazing. Maybe they did send you."
"Then," you asked, your voice a soft whisper, "if I'm the star, what are you to me?"
His eyes, dark and earnest, met yours. "I'll be your night," he said, his voice laced with sincerity, "where you can shine brightly. Because you shine the brightest when you're next to me."
The silence that followed was thick with unspoken emotions. You both broke into simultaneous laughter, a nervous, joyful sound that filled the rooftop. Neither of you had ever spoken of your feelings, and the sudden vulnerability was both exhilarating and comical.
"Jungmo! Y/N! It's getting late! Y/N has to go back!" His mother's voice echoed from below, breaking the spell.
"That's my cue," you said, a hint of reluctance in your voice. "I'll stay with my aunt tonight, since it's so late."
Jungmo stood, his hand outstretched. "Let's go, my star."

If there's something Jungmo can't deal with, it's his crap sleep schedule. His eyes, his body; it's tired. He's tired. The only thing he'd like to do at this moment is to sleep-- aside from holding you. But his mind just has to be too stubborn and take a twist.
He swallows a whine in, sighing instead. That's when an abrupt wave of dizziness hits him, and he can't help but groan a little. The only thing he can do if bury his face further into your shoulder, clawing at the material of his hoodie that you're clad in.
Unbeknownst to him, you stir in your sleep, patting lightly on your thick blanket.
"...Mogu?"
You make sure you say it in a soft whisper to not startle him too much. Your boyfriend answers with a hum, pressing his lips to the skin of your neck.
Though no more words are exchanged, you nod tenderly, fingers twirling the ends of his locks. Like every routinely night, your breathing matches his, legs entangling even more with his, your hand combs slowly through his hair, the other one tracing the cold skin that seemed to shine despite the lack of light in the room.
Jungmo's thumb trails up and down your bare hip, occasionally brushing the material of his pair of basketball shorts you'd always wear, which he pulls up the slightest.
"Sorry for waking you up," Whispers Jungmo. You blow at his face playfully, the few strands of hairs now flying from his face. "You have nothing to apologize for." You push the blankets down to your waist. "Is it too hot? Too stuffy?"
Your boyfriend's smile twitches a little bigger at your thoughtfulness, and he can already feel his headache subsiding miraculously.
"I'm fine, really." He assures you, eyes fluttering closed for the first time tonight. Your lips purse, "Are you sure?"
"The most you can do is talk, really." You cock a brow up. "Talk?"
"I like your voice."
Clearing your throat, you shuffle closer to Jungmo, closing the narrow gap between you, "On my very first day of school, in the first grade, I cried non-stop. The moment I didn't see my dad anywhere I started bawling."
The side of Jungmo's lip twitches up in a childish snicker.
"I even had my teacher sit me up on her lap in front of the class. I sat up there on her lap while everyone else was sat on the colorful carpet. I felt a little special, but thinking back to it now, I feel stupid about it."
"You're making it sound like you were cute back then."
"I was, Jungmo." You jest. "So then my teacher-- i forgot her name... she asked me with the softest voice..."
Soon enough Jungmo's eyes were dipping by he second, each word you emitted being his sweet personal lullaby. A lullaby he could never replace.

"sir, may i ask if you’re going to order or not? you can step aside first if-"
"wait, wait. how different is the iced latte from the iced caramel latte?" says the man while still looking up at the menu overhead, lips parted, eyes squinted, and hands on the side of his neck, mid-scratch. you tapped the cash register impatiently and took note of how his sharp jaw moved as he scrutinized the menu. was it possible to hate someone at first sight? he was only your first customer of the day yet your blood was already boiling. either finals season was getting to you or this guy had a knack for testing your patience.
you walked to your part-time job every day at the break of dawn just in time for you to see most of the commercial establishments opening. people were going about their own mornings preferring to be undisturbed, you included. earphones in, you savored the few peaceful moments you had to yourself before the chaos of a morning shift.
more often than not, your shifts were totally and utterly uninteresting: you would be prepping ingredients to be used for the rest of the day and office employees or the occasional student running late for a 7 am class would be walking in and out to get their morning fix. there was also a bunch of cleaning left for you. the night-shift employee was simply not thorough enough to distinguish which mop to use for the spills. to this, you did your first of many eye-rolls for the day.
that being said, you weren’t exactly the most patient among your colleagues; however, the laid-back atmosphere this friendly neighborhood cafe had when it was not teeming with customers around the early afternoon almost made you forget about your subtle hatred for human interaction.
but today, as you started your shift at 6 am in the morning with your eyes barely open and a man who has been standing in front of you for more than three minutes, you remembered just why.
"well, sir, obviously, the caramel latte...has caramel." you had to stop yourself from rolling your eyes at the stupid question, whispering the better part of your sentence to mask your tone. but as they all say, the customer is always right. what a nonsensical saying.
"give me a second. i’ll just call a friend to ask what to order here.”
to your distaste, the older male leisurely took his phone out from his brown coat and scrolled through his contacts like he had all the time in the world. oh, if he could only hear your inner thoughts.
“wait-” he flashed you a friendly smile while fumbling with the gadget. “hey, serim-hyung-"
the man flinched, almost too dramatically, when you placed both your palms on the counter with just the right amount of force to shake its contents. he expected to see you fuming but instead saw the softest expression on your face which, frankly, was scarier.
"one caramel latte, hot, with an extra shot of espresso and a pump of dark chocolate for?"
"goo jungmo." he replied, suddenly alert, phone still pressed to his ear. the dull sounds of a confused friend on the other line now went unnoticed.
"...goo jeonmo. coming right up," you punched in the order while holding a fake smile that started to hurt your cheeks and exhaled a breath you didn't know you’ve been holding. breathe, y/n, this will be a fine morning. he’ll be out of here in just a few minutes.
“it's actually goo jung-"
"5,000 won, please." you extended your palm to him without making eye-contact.
jungmo just stared at your hand for a few seconds, still dazed with your outburst. could that even be considered an outburst? how strange. "oh. here." and it just started to sink in that you practically made his order for him.
"hey, i didn't ask for a-" he leaned in to take a peek at the monitor, ready to protest against the sudden turn of events. all he wanted was to get a new kind of morning coffee at this new place before walking to the university, yet it seemed like the way you two met was enough to shake the morning drowsiness out of the both of you.
"it's good. it’s my go-to. consider it a secret special," you said nonchalantly and turned the monitor away from him. you handed him the receipt and gestured him towards the claiming counter. "next customer, please."
jungmo slowly slid to the side as he placed his hands inside his pockets. he just shook his head, trying to wipe away the amused smile he now unconsciously had on his face while thinking about the humor in this encounter.
“oh shoot. sorry, hyung. did i wake you? my bad... but i guess you have to get up now, huh?” he laughed mischievously, getting back to the phone call left unattended a few moments ago. “oh, it was nothing! i’ll tell you about it later. it’s funny, really.”
with a quick glance at your nameplate, he started to think about what other interesting encounters would take place in this cafe in the following mornings. maybe he just found his new pre-class route.
the rest of the week was uneventful to say the least. your encounter with the unrealistically good-looking yet annoyingly slow customer was now far forgotten. as per usual, university kept you busy outside of work.
you’ve always thought your part-time job jived well with your college degree. after all, there’s nothing like the scent and taste of coffee to keep a pre-med student awake in front of their brick-like pathophysiology books. all those extra shots of espresso and doses of dark chocolate are enough to keep your eyes open and your mind running for countless all-nighters.
and that was exactly what you were planning to do tonight. clad in your most comfortable sweater which replaced your coffee-stained apron, a cold drink in hand, you made your way to the haneul university library.
seoul started and ended its day just like any other famous metropolis. jungmo observed this everyday as his feet took him to where he needed to be like it's second nature. but that one wednesday when he broke his routine and entered a new side-street cafe, his morning became unlike any other stroll to the university and he was sure to go back.
for two very unexpected reasons.
first, because he was surprisingly offered a part-time job (a funny coincidence. who would’ve thought the cafe owner was his father’s high school bandmate?) and second, well, because he found himself craving your go-to drink. that genius mix really got to him. and to think that he didn’t even order it himself.
he pondered dropping by the cafe before his first day of barista training tomorrow as he stood up to exit the university library. jungmo just spent most of the evening finishing a 10-page world history paper, his last agenda for the day.
“agh… my back hurts.” he stretched before grabbing his jacket and the last of his things from the study table.
“y/n? the book you were looking for was just returned here,”
jungmo involuntarily snapped his head towards the front desk, reacting to the name called out by the resident librarian. he scratched his neck in confusion as he looked for the source of the voice.
“ah, thank you. i’ll take this,”
so it’s really that y/n from the cafe? he followed you with his eyes as you walked back to the library table that you were occupying alone. jungmo, his mouth frozen in a small ‘o’ at yet another coincidence, might just have a change of evening plans. haneul university was truly full of surprises. and good ones.
“long night?”
you abruptly looked up from the stack of notes you were studying intently, unable to properly respond to jungmo’s small talk. nonetheless, the look of recognition on your face was enough to urge him to continue.
“one caramel latte, with an extra shot of espresso and a pump dark chocolate for y/n. but you seem to be having it iced now?” he looked over at the drink on top of your desk, trying to use his wide smile to start a conversation. it’s how people almost always immediately warmed up to the charming and childlike goo jungmo. he silently hoped you were not an exception, even if he straight up just mocked your lines.
“you study here?” you asked when you recovered from the sudden greeting, if you could even call it that.
“well, obviously, i do.” jungmo mocked you again, all in good fun. he successfully replicated the tone you used with him during your not-so-pleasant cafe encounter.
you sighed in defeat. you really did feel sorry for the way you acted. it was a good thing you still even had your job. “i’m sorry for how i acted that morning. i guess it was the stress getting to me. jeonmo, right?”
“goo jungmo, actually.” he laughed, finally succeeding in correcting the mistaken name at which you just facepalmed in embarrassment. “no worries. i was really slow, wasn’t i?” he scratched the back of his head, a tinge of realization crossing his facial expression. you nodded with pursed lips.
“but hey, at least i got three good things out of that morning in bt cafe.” he casually sat on the chair next to you and pulled up three fingers, counting down while he spoke. “the drink was good, and i got a new job there, and...”
“wait, you’re the new recruit i have to teach?! you know i have to work nights now, right?”
maybe it was the way he sat down beside you so comfortably or how adorably foolish he looked with that habitual scratch to the neck, but holding a casual conversation with this jungmo wasn’t hard at all. the first impressions my 6 am-self created are really unreliable.
“you make it sound so sketchy. it’s a cafe job, not some underground cult.”
you rolled your eyes at his joke and scoffed, internally thanking the heavens for his humor that’s making this sudden interaction so light-hearted. he waved the previous statement off and continued. “turns out bt cafe stands for boys in trouble, my father’s band back in high school.”
“your father is mr. kim’s bandmate?! he talks endlessly about his band phase!”
“shhh!” both of you bowed to the librarian who was peering at you through the shelves on your far-left.
“best bandmate, mind you. it’s the reason why i picked up some guitar skills growing up.” jungmo gets immersed in your now-hushed conversation, making himself lean back on the library chair despite not having any work to do. you did the same, unconsciously leaning in to hear more about your boss.
your pending tasks were left undone for the meantime and you and jungmo were subjected to about three more glares from the librarian that night.
night 1: bt cafe
the training starts.
“coffee beans. they all look the same.” now wearing an apron identical to the one you had, jungmo stood in front of the cafe pantry trying to decipher the coffee beans you’ve been introducing to him without their respective labels.
“that’s what amateurs always say,” you teased. from the previous night, you already established how fun it was to see his reactions to even the smallest attempts to irritate him. it was a good thing trainings took place in the early evenings when you actually had the energy for a bit of fun.
“well, i am an amateur. that’s why you’re teaching me, sunbae.” jungmo jabbed back and followed you around the main counter, hands clasped together as he tried to act like a cute and enthusiastic junior.
you pretended to cringe and broke in laughter when he whined. “back to the coffee beans…”
night 7: bt cafe
within a week, jungmo got the hang of working the bulky and stubborn espresso machine. he has yet to produce a perfectly good batch without burning himself, though.
“i’m surprised you even have the time for a part-time job, pre-med.”
“i could say the same to you, mr. pilot. don’t you have plane diagrams to memorize--ow! that’s hot!” you retreated from the hot cup he was handing to you.
“shit, did I burn you?” jungmo instinctively took your hand and started to look for any redness and swelling, turning your hand over in his. “where does it hurt?”
“.....i’m okay.” you looked up at the much taller male and slowly slid away, finding the sudden proximity quite foreign.
“a baristas hands are precious. let me get a cold towel,”
you followed his retreating figure with your eyes, noting how easily he blended in with the rest of the cafe, apron and all. with a shake of your head and a repressed smile, you might have just thought about calling him cute.
night 10: bt cafe
“....then, after that you just let the coffee drip by itself for about 15-20 minutes- yah.”
“hmm?” jungmo straightened up from having his head on his palm, elbows against the counter. “sorry. you kinda looked...cute...when you were focused.” he said softly without making eye-contact as he mimicked the coffee drip set-up you just made. he realized that it was a weird feeling, suddenly being timid like this.
“tch. focus.” you turned your back to place some ingredients back on their shelves, taking this opportunity to smile and recollect yourself before going back to watching jungmo’s progress.
night 14: university grounds
"you really don't have to bring me these to track your progress..." you saw jungmo waiting outside the biology laboratory for the third time this week, thermos clutched in hand. a few days ago, he insisted on buying his own coffee drip set to get some practice at home. talk about being thoughtfully extra.
"i mean, yeah, we're together every night but you have to see how i do it on my own!"
"shh! people will take that out of context, idiot!" you looked around at the waves of people piling out of the laboratory, worried someone might overhear. jungmo just teased you by wiggling his eyebrows, earning him a smack to the shoulder.
night 20: bt cafe
“yes, y/n, to what do i owe this pleasure of a phone call from you?” jungmo answered his phone after several rings. you were beginning to worry that he got into an accident. why was he so late to his training tonight?
“where are you?”
“i might not come tonight. important presentation tomorrow and we might have to pull an all-nighter. don’t worry! i already told our boss. wait, you’re actually looking for me.”
“i mean, you’ve been coming every night so…”
“y/n misses me.” you almost hear his teasing face through the phone lines. jungmo heard your eyes roll in turn.
“uhm, no, thank you. i’m hanging up.” you put your phone back inside your pocket only to retrieve it after a few seconds when you received a message notification.
don’t worry! i miss you too!
night 30: haneul university library
“agh. how am i ever going to save lives like this?” the sound of resignation in your voice made jungmo look up from his laptop. aside from the regular trainings, you and jungmo have arranged regular study sessions. it’s safe to say that you’ve been spending a good fraction of your week with your fellow haneul student, workmate, and, as it now seems, a special friend.
“you’re keeping me alive just fine, though, doc.” jungmo walked over to your side of the library table and ruffled your hair while your face was still buried in your textbooks. his previous statement went unnoticed. “you should go home early tonight. i’ll take you.” he pulled you up by the arm, shaking you to encourage you to stand up as you grunted.
“thanks, mogu.”
he just nodded at you with a smile and held out his arm to drape around you while you walked. “let’s go.”
night 40: university garden
“hey, you never told me about the third thing.” you sat on the garden bench, stopping jungmo’s strides and pulling him to sit too.
"hmm?"
“the third good thing you got from that day at the cafe. you got a good drink, got a job and….?” you urged him to continue, expecting the answer to be something trivial. after all, it was something he told you on the first day you properly met. would he even remember what the third thing was?
“that? the third thing is that..." jungmo took his time and pretended to fix his jacket, intentionally stalling until you glared at him.
"....i met you.” the casual tone in his voice and the giggle that accompanied it made it seem like it was something he said everyday.
"liars go to hell. and you're full of cheese."
"but you love cheese." he shrugged. knowing you couldn’t deny this, jungmo stood up and pulled you by the hand, ready to walk you home like what the both of you have gotten used to.
night 50: bt cafe
“so you sold your coffee drip set to wonjin because…?” you were fixing up the last of today’s orders with jungmo waiting beside you to place them on their cup holders.
“i don’t need to make coffee for myself anymore. you speed up my heart just fine throughout the day now.” he secured the cups and held them out to the waiting customer. “come again!”
“goo jungmo.” you turned bright red and hid your embarrassment by slapping jungmo’s arm. “don’t fool around like that.”
“ey. i just confessed, can’t you be a little more accommodating?” jungmo ran to the door and flipped the cafe sign from open to closed. “should i have written it in latte art or something? i like you. would 8 letters fit in that tiny cup?”
“you call that a confession?” this earned the iconic whine from goo jungmo. "hey, idiot!" you called to him from across the empty cafe and scratched your neck like he always did, for effect. "i like you, too."
night 77: bt cafe
“shift’s over. what are you doing?” you leaned on the counter to take a peek at what jungmo was doing. there were no customers anymore so you were wondering what was keeping him so busy.
“one caramel latte, iced, with-“
“—an extra shot of espresso and a pump of dark chocolate...” you continued his sentence, nodding your head in time with the words.
“...for my y/n,” jungmo finished and handed you a cup with both hands. you took it with a playful squint of your eyes.
you took a sip, keeping your eyes on the expectant jungmo. a moment of silence ensued.
“jungmo. i love you….but-”
“i love you too.” he hurriedly replied without hesitation.
“…but i still make the best version of this.” you smiled victoriously, sticking your tongue out at him before drinking the rest of the latte which you admitted tasted pretty close to your specialty. jungmo just raised his hands up in defeat and proceeded to watch you drink his version of the go-to drink that brought you two together in the first place.
“if i get to see you smile like that, do i really want to get it right?”
You had just finished eating dinner with Jungmo's family and both of you are now heading towards their backyard to spend some quality time together. Before the month had started, Jungmo had already told you that he would want you to meet his family already. He was very happy when you agreed to his request and was even delighted to see you fit very well with his family a while ago during dinner with them.
Sighing contentedly, Jungmo then handed you the mug that was filled with his mother's special hot cocoa. "I'm glad you enjoyed meeting them," he said before taking a sip on his mug. Nodding softly at him, you then smiled at him. "I was actually nervous when we were in the car. My hands were sweating so much that I was worried that you might notice it" you admitted as the both of you laughed.
"It feels great meeting your family though"
Trying to hide his smile, Jungmo then lets out a fake cough. "Actually, there is a reason why I wanted you to meet them tonight" he also admitted, making you raise an eyebrow at him. Taking the mug from your hands and setting it behind him with his mug as well, he then took your hands and held it with his. "We've known each other for a long time already and I've been thinking about this for some time," he said as he took a deep breath and fished out a small velvet box on his coat.
"Will you make this the best Christmas and marry me?"
summary: from ballroom dancing in royal courts to waltzing with the bustling city in your view, you suppose you'll always seek comfort in the sky and the clouds and stars that come with it.
warning(s): none, song inspo: mundo - iv of spades
a/n: happy valentines <3 JJDJDJD tho this is bad like BAD bad ; v ; also will edit later !
ham wonjin entered your life with a simple hello and a shy wave. you noticed there was emptiness in his eyes when he first met you.
you also felt warmth and comfort with him, other than your parents and close friends, you've never felt this with someone. he felt like he was meant to meet you, in a local café at one in the afternoon.
you thought it was just a simple love at first sight situation, hoping you'll get over it right after the two of you part ways — but he just kept coming back over and over again, blossoming into a nice friendship between you two.
you learned he wanted to see what's beyond the horizon ahead, what the line between the sky and ocean had for him. his brightness when it comes to telling his plans match the brightness of the stars twinkling in his eyes, sparkly, you think.
you were the opposite though, you're content laying on the clouds without second thought. the hues of pink, orange and a twinge of dark blue present during a sunset is already enough to comfort you as night covers the town like a blanket.
and so, wonjin brings you on the boat with him to discover everything. sailing it away from the clouds you're used to your whole life, and at this point you realize you're in love with him.
quite like the dreams you had nights before, where you were both ballroom dancing as he lovingly describes you as “the brightest star among the darkest of skies,” you propose that he's the moon then. he replies with a small chuckle and a “yeah, perhaps i am.”
maybe wonjin felt the same familiar feeling with the horizons as you did when you first met him. it's as if you're meeting with an old childhood friend and you're talking about the years you spent without each other.
though, what he's looking for beyond the horizon wasn't you. it was someone else, someone much more better. the sparkly eyes you noticed when you're talking with wonjin wasn't as bright compared to when he's talking about her.
and on nights when both of you are talking on the phone, the moon being the only thing bright enough for your eyes to distinguish, you just want to stop and ask, “you seem lonely tonight, mind if i join you in the night sky?”
morning comes quickly, the clouds feel unfamiliar to you and you're frantically looking for the horizon ahead. you figure someone managed to get to it first, it must be her then.
after that, you noticed your dreams felt emptier than before.
ham wonjin entered your life with a simple hello and a shy wave and ended it with a silent goodbye. you should've said goodbye, when you saw them happily dance under the moonlight, the night still young and the morning horizon in their hands.
you should've said goodbye, when they happily celebrated their third anniversary, the morning horizon in their hands are seen in the form of a promise ring. “i love you,” he says to her, the moon in his eyes matching the stars in hers.
but you tell them, “congrats,” with a small smile on your lips. she hugs you first, telling you that you're one of her best friends. then wonjin hugs you next, telling you that if it weren't for your support this'll never happen.
you've been looking for comfort at the skies for a long time after that, no longer thinking of the horizon, maybe you're content with what's here and here only.
and so, koo jungmo enters your life with a quiet i love you. it became his hand that helped you point the stars ane form a constellation and not wonjin's. he didn't lead you beyond the horizon, though he did lead you somewhere higher than the clouds you're used to.
jungmo sees you as the orange sky during the sunrise. much like the dream he had before, where both of you snuck out of your palace and danced until the sun started rising, replacing the moon with the sun.
and so, jungmo says i love you. he says i love you when he notices the hurt in your eyes when you see wonjin, he says i love you when he notices your clouds are filled with thunderstorms and he'll try his best to clear them for sunshine.
“i think i met you under a sky like this.” jungmo says while he walks you home after a date, you tilted your head, “you still remember?” you ask, looking up at the sky; it was a mix of colors, some hues of yellow, blue and pink present as it mixes into an undistinguished color.
“of course i do,” jungmo smiles softly, you hit him playfully, “simp.” you tease. jungmo chuckles with you, his laugh felt so genuine and so lovingly that you can't help but chuckle along.
and you realize, you're content with life, the sky bringing you both melancholy and comfort to you. when you look up at jungmo, feeling the warmth of the afternoon when he looks back at you as he murmurs an i love you.
and you say it back without regrets flooding your mind, jungmo smiles softly at your improvement. he's been having thoughts that you'll probably leave him for wonjin and get hurt again, which is probably why he's been more protective when you're around him.
he remembers another one of his dreams, where he was watching you as you dance with wonjin. although there were tons of people twirling around the ballroom, his eyes can't help but focus on you and wonjin.
but the next time your parents hosted a royal ball, he wasn't with you. weird, he thought. you looked a bit lonely, standing by the balcony as if you're looking for something or someone, rather.
you were a bit apprehensive when he held out his gloved hand, asking to dance with him, but nonetheless you still grabbed it. it didn't feel the same, but you guess this can be some sort of remedy for your unrequited love.
you didn't realize some stray tears stained your cheeks until jungmo reached out to wipe them. you looked away for a while, afraid he might think you're ugly because of that, but when you look back at him your met with a small smile — a smile as if he's saying he's there for you.
and he kept that silent promise, sneaking into your room whenever he notices you've been awfully quiet lately. sometimes he'll even send you letters when either of you are away for royal duties.
he was almost like the sky, always there for you and you'll always see clear shades of blue whenever you're with him. jungmo brings you comfort, and love as a small undertone to it.
so when both of you say quiet i love yous under marmalade skies during autumn, you realize the sky is yours now. and as you watch horizons blossom into something beyond it, you'll always go back to the hues of the sky you've come to know and seek comfort in.
“you know, you're like the sky somehow, i don't know why though.” you suddenly say, jungmo looks at you as he tilts his head. “you're the stars that come with it then, morning and night.”
the conversation brings you a sense of familiarity, and it makes you smile a bit. “yeah, perhaps i am.” you answer.
so you suppose the good in your goodbye was when wonjin was the first to let go.
weekends, the most awaited part of the week as it served as a breather from the ever so hectic academic life. the sun’s already up. but instead of moving to get a headstart on the next week’s lesson, you found yourself simply dragging your body from the bed to the couch. a change in the location where you would lie on.
you would honestly just prefer to dump yourself in the lower bunk. well, only if your roommate, jungmo, wouldn’t be into giving you a stare that made it seem like you did a punishable crime.
jungmo was one of the nicest persons you’d ever met. however, he didn’t really favor the idea of people using his things without his permission— maybe a little exception with you. as you were his roommate and you somehow would always end up using his things from pens, mugs, and sometimes… clothes. he would whine whenever, though would always end up allowing you in the end. at this point, he might have already become accustomed to your antics.
his bed was empty; he must’ve left the dormitory early. he would usually drop by a cafe to get a morning booster, a student’s fuel: coffee.
lazily scrolling through your phone, you jumped from an app to another; time passing slowly. the door clicked open and jungmo’s soft humming resounded from the front steps.
in his hand was a cup holder that contained two cups of coffee, on another was a paper bag which you assumed contained some bread as the logo of the local bakery near your dormitory was stamped cleanly on it.
“good mor— wait…” jungmo stopped in his tracks as soon as he spotted you on the couch. “is that my shirt?”
you gazed at your top for a moment, confirming. “yes.”
“not again…” jungmo mumbled, placing the food on the coffee table just in front of the couch. sitting on the other end of the couch, where he had forced your feet off, a sigh left his lips, one latched in exaggeration. arranging the food he bought on the table, he brought one of the drinks closer to your direction.
“you really love me a lot,” you teased, a grin appearing on your countenance.
“and if i tell you that i really like you?”
“what?” you asked, dumbfounded. the coffee you were about to take a sip from suspended as thoughts began running wild in your head. your heart wasn’t beating fast, but you were aware of its slow yet thunderous beats.
the tone jungmo used didn’t give you enough room to decode his words. he was calm and for a moment you thought it was a confession, but it also sounded like a simple retort.
or maybe it was really a confession?
“ah, what a dumbass,” jungmo snorted and began shaking his head. turning his head towards your direction, your eyes met. something that made your stomach do a backflip. and if only you weren’t able to control, you might’ve already spilled the coffee you were holding. “i said i like you.”
i played that piece to make you fall asleep, dummy.

you wake up with a soft tune of a guitar, the glow of the orange-yellow light in the room, and the warm feeling of someone by your side.
you lift your head with squinting eyes and yawned, all while stretching and waking up your still half-asleep body. you examined the room to see that you were in the school music room, various instruments scattered around. you checked the time with your phone in your hand to see that it was ten minutes past five.
‘had a good sleep?’ jungmo asked as he continued to play his guitar. he was playing a rather mellow tune, something soft to fit the incoming sunset.
‘yup,’ you yawned once more, ‘a little too good i guess.’
‘that band practice was exhausting, i’m glad you decided to take a nap.’ jungmo looked at you as he played, eyes soft with a hint of concern.
the whole afternoon you had band practice, preparing for an upcoming concert outside of the school. it was only a few days away hence the longer periods of practice. along with that, you were caught up with the busy days of midterms. you were basically swamped with work, both in academics and extracurriculars. there was no time for breaks.
after band practice today, jungmo asked you to stay behind and listen to his new composition. you hesitated at first, saying you had to study for your exams. but jungmo insisted, and said it’ll only take a few minutes.
but those few minutes turned into something longer, as you accidentally fell asleep on his shoulder while listening to him play.
you gave a look of shock. ‘i didn’t even notice i fell asleep, and while you were playing too. i’m sorry-‘ jungmo cut off your words with a finger on your lips, and gave you a soft smile.
‘i played that piece to make you fall asleep, dummy. you’ve been working hard the past days to the point that you’ve been neglecting sleep. the bags under your eyes gave it away.’ jungmo explained as he put away his guitar. ‘i know everything’s been hectic, but i don’t want you sacrificing your health like that.’
you looked down with a pout, feeling bad that you made jungmo worry. ‘you’re right….i’m sorry. i should’ve taken care of myself better.’
jungmo stopped to look at you, and gave a sigh. ‘come here.’
he pulled you to his side, and put his arm around you. ‘forget about midterms and the performance for a while. forget about the books and lessons waiting for you at your desk at home. forget about the piano notes you need to play at the concert. just take your mind away from all those, and rest. relax.’ jungmo rubbed your arms reassuringly, and gave your forehead a soft peck.
at that moment, you relaxed. you released the tension that was in you and threw out the thoughts inside your head. you gave a sigh and closed your eyes, taking in jungmo’s warmth and the soft melody he started to hum. the sunset gave the room a magical glow. everything from jungmo’s humming, to his warmth and to the golden hours of the sun, made you feel completely at ease.
your eyes started to close again, and you eventually slept with a warm feeling in your heart.
[6:42] After a long day of school, your favorite thing to do was always by far to cuddle with your bf!jungmo. Being in his strong arms felt like home, the faint scent of his cologne welcoming you warmly like a cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter day. You don’t think you’d ever get tired of hugging him or being hugged by him.
As you came home, tired after your teachers had bombarded you with an ungodly amount of assignments and exams, the first thing you saw was Jungmo sprawled on the couch of your shared apartment, his soft purplish hair spreading out messily on his pillow making you burst into soft giggles. He was deeply concentrated into the movie that was playing on TV, not even noticing you quietly walking up to him and sitting down on the other end of the couch. You got closer and closer to him and muffled back a snort at the way Jungmo still wasn’t noticing you despite the closeness.
“Boo.”
A yelp rang throughout the apartment, followed by your loud laughter, not even caring that your neighbors might file a noise complaint. You tried biting back your laughter upon seeing Jungmo’s pout, but the situation was just too humorous for you to not laugh. After a few seconds of you half snorting half giggling, you heard a few chuckles escaping Jungmo’s lips, turning into full blown wheezing after a few seconds, which then made you laugh even harder until your sides hurt.
“I’m gonna get you back for this.” Jungmo muttered, sitting up on the couch, shooting you a glare. His expression then turned into one of mischief and playfulness. “Jungmo, I swear to God, if you’re gonna do what I’m thinking you’re gonna do.” By now, you weren’t laughing anymore, backing away from him. The playful smirk on his face did nothing but confirm your suspicions.
He jumped towards you, pinning you down and his fingers shot to your sides, tickling you furiously. “J-jungmo… stop it.” You managed to chortle out between bursts of laughter. By now, you were definitely certain your neighbors were going to complain.
“Not until you apologize for scaring me, Y/N” A wide grin was etched on his face, one that made you smile despite the torture that Jungmo was currently subjecting you to. “You’re the one who didn’t notice me when I was 2 feet from you. I’m not apologizing.” You tried keeping a straight face, but Jungmo was moving to your most ticklish areas, your feet. Damn you for confessing to him that your feet were sensitive.
“Do it or no cuddles for you tonight!”
“Alright! Alright! I yield!” You dramatically cried out, doing your best Loki impression. Jungmo finally stopped, still hovering over you, a small tender smile now replacing his mischievous grin from earlier. “I’m sorry for scaring you, Jungmo. Please cuddle me now?” You were sure your face was bright red judging from its warmth by the way Jungmo was pinning you down, his lips about 2 inches away from yours. Even after dating him for 2 years, you still were flustered by the smallest gestures.
He smiled, pecking you quickly on the lips taking you completely by surprise, rolled onto his side and opened his arms wide, silently telling you to scoot closer to him. You didn’t even need him to tell you that, you immediately rolled over to him, wrapping your arms tightly around his frame, your cheeks against his shoulder. You feel Jungmo gently kissing your hair.
